  • A: the protection plan they offer covers everything but loss and theft

submitted by - 1 year ago
  • A: You have to buy a plan with Accidental Damage Handling. It doesn't appear the plan offered on the product page includes that. Ask Squaretrade for further clarity. Clicking "See Plan Details" under the plan cost helps get you to the right place. My plan was to buy squaretrade separately so I can be sure to get the plan options I want.

Q: Hi, WE don't have wifi, we just use our hotspots from our phones. Will the Oculus work via hotspot on our iPhones?

submitted by Kristi - 11 months ago
  • A: Hi, I am a decently knowledgeable Quest 2 user. I have myself used my hotspot for my Quest 2, but I would not recommend it. Mobile Hotspots are watered-down versions of actual wifi, and only put out a 2.4Ghz (slower) connection. If you/your child plans on gaming online on his headset, I would recommend getting actual WiFi. Also, hotspots usually have a limit (depending on your provider and phone plan) and you would quickly reach that limit when you install games. If the headset will mostly be used for solo playing, the hotspot will work. But installing the games will take a while.

submitted byNathan - 10 months ago
  • A: Hi, Kristi! Regarding your question about the Oculus Quest 2: Advanced All-In-One Virtual Reality Headset - 128GB: A hotspot works exactly as a Wi-Fi network does, as such you will have no issues in connecting this item to the created network. Exciting Introduction to VR

I really enjoy my Quest 2. I'm not entirely sure of all the kinds of games available and would like a better onboarding "new to VR/gaming" tutorial. The streaming feature's delay is frustrating and undermines functionality for watching along, especially with Beat Saber.

Motion Sickness

My only complaint so far concerns the way you have to move/slide around. The motion is terribly nauseating. I can't enjoy anything that requires that type of motion. It makes me sick to my stomach but I'm not normally prone to nausea.

New Adventures

I love my Meta Quest 2! I am an older person that has limited transportation and am unable to see things outside of my home. Now I am able to travel the world. Visit a made up world and make a few avartar friends along the way. I've gone bowling and walked among dinosaurs. I exercise nightly with my Beat Saber and Fight!. There are quite a few apps/experiences that are free. I am on a fixed income so that is great. I do wish there were more. I'm excited to see what new developments are coming in the future for the Meta Quest 2! Quick note: It is best to buy the extra comfort headband and you need the extra battery pack. I wish they would have made it with the extra playtime hours. Also you need to get sweatbands from a third party for your face if you plant to exercise.

Better than PSVR

4 out of 5 stars
Benji - 17 days ago

I had bought PSVR for the ps4 after playing a VR game at an arcade place. I was heavily disappointed. I recently got meta quest 2 hoping it’d be better since it was newer. It was much better. There was gradual smoothing looking instead of just shifting which causes headaches like on psvr. A lot of the games are fun. The only downside is the headset comes out of focus as it shifts on your head. Making it tighter should be easier. But they have upgraded bands you can purchase which I’ll be trying.

I love this thing!!

I love the immersive gameplay, the movement required in games and the exercise apps I’ve downloaded. I’ve even wandered around the world visiting places from my history and places I wish I could go in person. What a fantastically cool device! It does leave red marks on my face and I am glad that the battery power limits my usage so my face can relax and I don’t completely lose track of real life. The hand controls are intuitive and easy for an old lady like me to use. The games are so fun, from Beat Saber to Moss to Arizona Sunshine…. The exercise app Supernatural is just breathtaking (in more ways than one!) I also enjoy being able to watch movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime. It would be cool to have access to Hulu and Disney + as well. I’m looking forward to more apps that teach… for instance, I feel like this platform would be excellent for learning languages, I just haven’t found an app for that yet! I bought one for my son as well. In addition to making me mom of the year, it allows me to get my butt handed to me in games by my offspring. Who doesn’t love that.

Good headset, but software quirks and data mining

3 out of 5 stars
Laine - 18 days ago
originally posted on oculus.com
The headset is nice quality, and the setup was fairly easy. I mostly use the headset in link mode so the software bugs apply to this. When trying to initiate link mode, the prompt disappears in room scale mode. To work around this issue, I initiate stationary mode, link to my computer, and then step out of the stationary boundary to start the prompt to switch to room scale. The headset puts pressure on the eyes making it difficult to wear for long periods of time, which I must do as I am a developer. As Oculus is now owned by Meta, I kept an eye on processes running after I downloaded the Oculus app. I noticed that the Oculus Service was running all the time, even when the app was closed and the Oculus not connected. I got rid of the Daemons in the registry and it still ran. I was able to get it to stop restarting itself after deleting the .exe for the service. For those who are unaware of what this all means, essentially meta is being meta and harvesting your data all of the time, so be aware of this. As a company who had to rebrand because of things like this, Meta should really know better. Summary: The headset is good for the price, with a stipulation of some software quirks in link mode. Be aware that Meta will attempt to your data off of your computer if you use your quest in link mode. Very uncool.

Upgrade?

I've had the original Quest since 2019 and was waiting for the Quest Pro to upgrade but due to the price tag, I decided to just pick up the Quest 2 instead for the higher resolution. Unfortunately, I found that even at the lowest brightness setting, the Quest 2 was so bright that within 20 minutes, I had a pretty intense headache. This has never happened in 3 years with the Quest. Also, the Quest 2 had faint diagonal lines on the screen. Not sure if these problems were a result of a defective unit but I decided to return it. Guess I'll wait for the Quest 3 and see what happens.

A peek into the future

4 out of 5 stars
Alexander - 19 days ago
originally posted on oculus.com
The Oculus 2 functions very well for the work meeting and solo gaming functions I have experienced. I like how well it performs untethered to a computer as many other devices require to run even basic apps. Battery life is good, but I expect future Oculus devices to have more memory, more power and lest cost as devices become more common. The weight distribution is unfortunate (heavily weighted on the face (front)). I do see the Pro version took this feedback and has lowered the total weight and moved some of the remaining weight to the back of the head, 5 - stars for that. Navigating by hand has improved quite a bit over the last year. I only seem to reach for the controller if I have to write to the whiteboard in a workroom. Using the Oculus 2 to have a virtual office with 3 large curved monitors has been amazing. I wonder how long until we don't even bother with office monitors IRL.
