Q: Shopping online I'm finding the explanations about set the timer confusing. Is the bezel first moved to 55 then back to desired time? Is that what you mean?

submitted by T_H_M - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi - To use: Wind timer clockwise between "55" and "0" minutes on the dial, then wind timer in a counterclockwise direction to set desired time. Give your kitchen space a touch of traditional style with this Metal Kitchen Cooking Timer from Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia. Hope this helps. - Thene

  • A: Hi T_H_M, thank you for your question. You are correct. By turning the silver bezel in a clockwise rotation until the hand falls between "55" and "0", you are winding up the timer mechanism. Please note: do not force the hand to move clockwise beyond "0" as this could damage the mechanism. Next, turn the bezel in a counter clockwise motion until the hand lands on your desired set-time. If your intent is to set the timer for one hour, simply turn the silver bezel in a clockwise rotation until the hand falls just before the "0" and let it go. • A: Hello Mikek - Great question! Yes, this item rings if used properly. You need to follow the instructions and wind the timer clockwise to the “55” then back counterclockwise to whichever time you choose. If the instructions aren’t followed, the timing will be off and the item will not ring. Thank you. - Kay

Q: I've misplaced my setup instructions. Can you please let me know how to set up my kitchen timer?

submitted by calexp - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi calexp, thank you for your question. Please see the following instructions. STEP 1: First, wind-up the timer. Turn the silver bezel in a continuous clockwise rotation until the timer hand falls between "55" minutes and "0" minutes on the dial. Note: Do not allow the hand to turn past "0". STEP 2: Set the timer by turning the silver bezel in a counter-clockwise rotation until the hand points to the desired timer set-time. STEP 3: Alarm will sound for 3 seconds when time is up. Note: After the alarm has sounded, you will hear the mechanical hand's mainspring resetting itself; this is normal. STEP 4: Repeat steps 1 & 2 to set timer again. CAUTION: Do not turn the bezel/hand counter-clockwise directly from position "0"; this will damage the timer device. Always turn the bezel in a clockwise rotation, as instructed in step 1, prior to setting the desired time. Do not submerge or saturate the timer with water. If the timer is exposed to water or liquid of any kind, wipe dry promptly.

So thankful for all the reviews reminding me to read and follow the directions! I've tried a few plastic timers but this one from Hearth and Hand is metal and good quality. Will be buying one for a friend when it's back in stock at our store.

Great little timer! Purchased for use in the kitchen and love it. At first I thought I received a defective timer bc it was not buzzing when time was up, HOWEVER, upon reading another review, I went back and read the directions that came with it. You MUST read the directions to understand how to use it properly, but to sum it up, you need to wind the silver dial all the way around, clockwise, to just over 55 min. then twist the silver dial counter-clockwise to your desired time. The timer will then work correctly, counting down and buzz for three seconds once time is up :) It’s perfect!

I got 1 of these in store. Got it home only to find 50%+ of the time itll tick and then never ring or just stops ticking. Returned it and got a replacement, thinking that it was just an odd defect. Nope....got the 2nd home and about a week into having, it did the same. By then though, id bought a 2nd (bc after a few days i thought it was perfect & functional for good), so now I have 2 that randomly stop ticking/counting and 50ish% of the time get to the end but dont ring. These are very cute but awful at actually doing their job. If you stand right next to them to make sure you realize when they stop counting or are done counting but didnt ribg, then i guess youre ok, but i feel that really defeats the purpose of a timer (since youd normally want to walk away from that area or the timer) We have some $1 digital timers that still get used far more, when i was hoping to use these in the bathrooms for kids showers, toothbrushing, etc (bc theres no batteries/electrical parts to get water damaged). SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE and get a different cute one elsewhere. These are too expensive not to work properly.
