Q: Can this timer be used silently? Like if you don't wind it past 55 will it still keep track of time but not ring?

Q: Shopping online I'm finding the explanations about set the timer confusing. Is the bezel first moved to 55 then back to desired time? Is that what you mean?

submitted by T_H_M - 10 months ago
  • A: Hi T_H_M, thank you for your question. You are correct. By turning the silver bezel in a clockwise rotation until the hand falls between "55" and "0", you are winding up the timer mechanism. Please note: do not force the hand to move clockwise beyond "0" as this could damage the mechanism. Next, turn the bezel in a counter clockwise motion until the hand lands on your desired set-time. If your intent is to set the timer for one hour, simply turn the silver bezel in a clockwise rotation until the hand falls just before the "0" and let it go. • A: Hello Mikek - Great question! Yes, this item rings if used properly. You need to follow the instructions and wind the timer clockwise to the “55” then back counterclockwise to whichever time you choose. If the instructions aren’t followed, the timing will be off and the item will not ring. Thank you. - Kay

  • A: Hi calexp, thank you for your question. Please see the following instructions. STEP 1: First, wind-up the timer. Turn the silver bezel in a continuous clockwise rotation until the timer hand falls between "55" minutes and "0" minutes on the dial. Note: Do not allow the hand to turn past "0". STEP 2: Set the timer by turning the silver bezel in a counter-clockwise rotation until the hand points to the desired timer set-time. STEP 3: Alarm will sound for 3 seconds when time is up. Note: After the alarm has sounded, you will hear the mechanical hand's mainspring resetting itself; this is normal. STEP 4: Repeat steps 1 & 2 to set timer again. CAUTION: Do not turn the bezel/hand counter-clockwise directly from position "0"; this will damage the timer device. Always turn the bezel in a clockwise rotation, as instructed in step 1, prior to setting the desired time. Do not submerge or saturate the timer with water. If the timer is exposed to water or liquid of any kind, wipe dry promptly.

  • A: Hi T_H_M, thank you for your question. There is only one way to operate the timer. Please see the instructional steps following: STEP 1: First, wind-up the timer. I bought two of these for my homeschooled children to use with their times reading. Unfortunately neither of them ring when it gets to 0.. it just stops ticking. It only rings if you physically turn it to 0 but that isn’t useful. They’re super cute so I’m bummed it didn’t work. Returning.

This kitchen timer works perfectly *provided that you read and follow the instructions* which a lot of reviewers have failed to do! Simply twist the silver bezel clockwise to set the dial between 55-0 in one motion (to wind the mechanism), then twist counter-clockwise to set the dial to the desired setting. Nice loud ding when the alarm goes off! Small but unobtrusive design in keeping with the Magnolia aesthetic. Great value and happy to not have to worry about batteries!

It’s cute and it does work if you follow the written directions. It has a loud ring and it the timer will rattle itself along the counter if it’s on a smooth surface. This could be a problem if you place it on a high area where it could fall. While it does work, don’t rely on the directions beneath the pictures. Step 2 says to turn the dial “clockwise” until it points to the desired time, however this is incorrect. The written step by step directions above the pictures are correct. You need to turn it counter-clockwise to set the time, after turning it clockwise between the 55 and 0 position.

It's very cute, but it doesn't actually ding at the end like it's supposed to. I tried to exchange it and tested every single one they had in-store and none of them dinged. If you shake it, you can tell it has a bell that is supposed to go off, but it never does...
