Q: is it a 24" low bike or a 24" high ?

Q: Is it possible to buy alternative brake handles that a kid can actually squeeze?

submitted by Blake Legend - 4 years ago
  • A: Hi Blake! For aftermarket parts, we recommend reaching out to a local bike shop for assistance.

submitted byMongooseCustomerSupport - 4 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: sometimes you can adjust them to be more closed to begin with. Maybe not, just take a look at the hardware. If you can, it might mean you then have to adjust the brake cables as well. Try to see if you can do it all from the handles. But if you run out of adjustment you may need to change it at the brakes. When you do that, I guess you try to put the cable adjustment at the levers at the mid point, then set the cable at the brakes, then fine tune at the lever. But of course the cable adjustment at the levers, and the lever height adjust, if it has one, would be separate adjustments at the levers.

Rear derailer snapped on this bike like most of the other people on here. I should’ve read the reviews first
1 reply from MongooseCustomerSupport team - 2 years ago
Hi. We're sorry to hear this! We would be happy to send any replacements needed for the damaged components, along with steps for the adjustments. This type of damage can happen when the rear derailleur is out of adjustment (either the cable is a bit too tight, or the lower pulley is bent a little too close to the spokes and gets caught.) While this part is set in- the factory, it can shift/bend during shipping or with an extra big bump or fall throughout your adventures. Please reach out to our Consumer Care Center or Direct message us your information on Facebook, Instagram, or twitter and we'd be happy to assist! We can be reached at 800-626-2811 Monday-Friday 7 am-6 pm CST. Warm Regards.

Great kids bike

This mountain bike is a great color and style for kids. The orange really stands out. Orange is my kid's favorite color, so it's a good match. Although it's technically a mountain bike, it also works just fine for biking around our neighborhood. We have a paved loop that this bike works best for. Growing up, Mongoose was a favorite brand of bike for my youngest brother. Overall this is a good quality bike.

This bike is great for kids who love to ride on rough terrains and bumpy roads. It has 24-inch wheels and 21 speeds, which makes it easy for kids to ride on different types of slopes. The orange color gives it a cool and stylish look that kids will love. The bike is also lightweight and easy to handle, which is perfect for younger riders. It is made with high-quality materials, so you can be sure that it will last for a long time. Overall, this bike is a great investment for parents who want to give their children a fun and safe riding experience. My kids love it and I am sure yours will too!

We live in the mountains and so we have a lot of hills and big rocks and the ground is pretty bumpy. This bike can do it all though. My son can’t wait to get home and ride around the property on this bike. No issues with tires going flat or anything breaking. It really withstands the wear and tear.

If this bike doesn't keep your kids off their devices for a few hours, nothing will. The Mongoose Standoff Kids Mountain Bike has 24" wheels, 21 speeds and a full suspension frame. My son assembled it in about 30 minutes with standard household tools. The tires are thick and bumpy to adapt to many rough terrains. This bike has made my son the boss of our rugged, country dirt roads.

This is a great bike. It is very well made and was easy to put the final pieces together on. This is our first time to get our kids a mountain bike but it has been great because we live in an area with a lot of trails. The seat height is easy to adjust. We have loved it and I think it will last us many years as we pass it down between kids. I highly recommend it!

Mongoose is a trusted brand. I had one when I was a teenager and now my daughter can have this too. This Standoff 24" Kids Mountain Bike has a frame that is sturdy enough to handle even bigger people. The suspension is nice for tough trail riding; whereas, the bright color makes it easier to see in a very cluttered garage and riding at night. My daughter loves riding it going to school.

This is a high quality made bike. 21 speed feature makes it a great accessory. The orange color makes it extremely sharp looking. Installation was super easy and came with detailed instructions. My nephew is going to be totally surprised on his birthday. Shipping was fast and reliable.

My daughter has been wanting a new bike for a while and I got this one for her. It came mostly put together. Our neighbor helped her put the rest together. She was up and riding the same day. She only uses it on roads nearby and in our neighborhood, so I can't speak on using it on trails or anything like that. It looks really nice and she likes it a lot.

My son has had this bike for a year and a half and the bike is falling apart. Yesterday while riding the bike, his shifter stopped working, on the right side, then his pedal and sprocket fell off. There is no way of fixing it either. Would not recommend this bike at all.

My son loves this bike!

My son was 11 when we bought this bike for him for Christmas; so he’s owned it for almost a year. He just recently turned 12. He rides it everywhere. We also go camping the majority of the Summer, where he’s riding all over on paved paths, roads, dirt, trails. He’s never had an issue with anything. We did purchase it already put together by one of Target’s employees that knew exactly what they were doing. I wouldn’t know where to start with putting a bike together.

Seriously dont buy - 3 years ago, Verified purchaser
Tires are far too soft. The nubs started to wear off after a few miles. And the rear shifter is terrible. Keeps knocking the chain off, and flipping around and lodging in the spokes. I had bought All my kids new bikes for a week long family camping trip. This was the only mongoose bike. My 8yr old son keep having to walk back for me to fix his bike. After the 3 time he figured out how to put the chain back on. After we got home he stopped riding alltogether. One time I made him go biking he couldnt fix it and had to drag his bike back 10 mins with the rear wheel locked up because the rear shifter screwed up again. And it trashed his rear tire.

My son also crashed this summer after the rear deraileur malfunctioned. This was after all of these reviews had mentioned this, and i do feel that if target had done more and recalled this bike, my son would have been able to avoid this accident. Now we are also without a working bike, and he is hesitant to get back on it even of we fix it.

Bought two bikes for my kids a year ago and after a few rides on one of them the rear gear assembly just snapped while riding it causing my child to fall on the ground while the other one had the chain come of the front gears and get stuck in between them causing my other child to fall on the ground.2 for two is not a coincidence and I’m very disappointed.
