Q: The box states it a 6 cup rice cooker. However, the inside dish of the cooker is only for 3 cups?
submitted by HRock - 5 years ago
A: Yes, the capacity of uncooked rice is 3-cup. When you cook those 3-cup of uncooked rice, it will become 6-cup of cooked rice.
submitted byOster Brand Team - 5 years ago

A: It's not the company's fault that so many of you lack common sense.
submitted byNiki - 2 years ago
A: 3 cups rice + 3 cups water = 6 cups. Voila!
submitted byTarget Shopper - 1 year ago
A: Clairfication: What the box actually says is "6 cup capacity". So if you add 6 cups of uncooked rice, then you would be at capacity and would have no room for the water!
submitted byTarget Shopper - 1 year ago
A: If you cook at all, you should know basics. Pasta and rice doubles in yield, from raw to cooked. This is NOT false advertisement. You just made a mistake, a common one. What you do with the cooker is your business, but your claim is false. You should pay attention.
submitted by - 3 years ago
A: The box is very misleading. I can’t believe you guys haven’t done anything to fix it. Not everyone is aware that 3 cups of uncooked rice, becomes 6 cups of cooked rice. This is “FALSE ADVERTISEMENT”.... very DISAPPOINTED
submitted byConsumer - 3 years ago
Q: the cup says only 3 cups how do fit 6 cups in here
submitted by yen - 5 years ago
A: Rice doubles in size when cooked. So 3 cups of raw (uncooked) rice equals to 6 cups of COOKED rice. It is not misleading, read the description on the box. Also, most rice cookers use the same description of cooked rice quantities. Some brands will list both uncooked and cooked measurements.
submitted byblendergirl - 4 years ago
A: The description literally says it holds 3 cups of UNCOOKED rice, 6 cooked.
submitted byNiki - 2 years ago
A: The measuring cup that is included is a "rice cooker" measuring cup, not a standard U.S. measuring cup, so the measurements work a little differently. One rice cup of the Oster® measuring cup included with this model is equal to 5.33 oz. of uncooked rice. The rice cooker is capable of cooking up to 3 full "rice cooker" Oster® measuring cups of uncooked rice, or 6 (5.33oz) Oster® cups of cooked rice. Hope this helps!

A: It says 6 cups i think that is very misleading when you can only cook 3 cups. Need to fix this because i only bought it thinking i can cook 6 cups of regular rice an this pot cant.
submitted byCajun - 5 years ago
A: Very misleading ..It's not for 6 cups of uncooked rice.. ..The rice cooker is too small.. It's going back.. I don't want it..
submitted byLetty - 3 years ago
Q: How does the rice cooker know to add cooking time for brown rice? Or do I need to restart it for cooking brown rice?
submitted by anon - 2 years ago
A: The cooker knows when the rice has absorbed the water because the temperature will change. When it senses the temperature change, it switches to warm mode.
submitted byTarget Shopper - 2 years ago
A: I don't know how it knows, but it knows. I cook both white and brown rice in exactly the same way and the cooker "knows" to go longer for the brown rice.
submitted byJOinGA - 2 years ago
A: Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. The rice cooker will be able to gauge when your rice has finished cooking depending on type of rice you are using. For best results, do not open the unit immediately after the cooking cycle has completed. The rice should be allowed to settle for several minutes before serving.

Q: is this the same as the duraceramic version?
submitted by foodie - 2 months ago
A: No. The duracermic verison is... ceramic. The DiamondForce version is teflon (with sparkly diamond dust added). Other than the nonstick coating, they are identical.
submitted byTarget Shopper - 21 days ago
A: Thank you for contacting Oster®. We appreciate your interest with our product. We understand that you are inquiring if the Oster® DiamondForce 6 Cup Nonstick Electric Rice is the same with Duraceramic version. No worries, we're happy to assist you. Please be advised that the DiamondForce is different from Duraceramic. The DiamondForce is a 2 Layer, Diamond Particle infused Nonstick Coating. This is not a ceramic coating. The diamond-infused coating is more wear-resistant than conventional non-stick coatings and will not chip or crack as long as you follow directions for the proper use and care. It also has a great heat conductor that diamond speeds heat transfer across the cooking surface, getting the pan to the desired temperature quickly. This means you can use a lower heat setting than you would with less heat-conductive cookware, helping you lower high energy bills. While the DuraCeramic is completely non-reactive, and contains no chemical additives. There's nothing to leach into your food, so your cookware is safe. Since you can use less oil than with other cookware, you can cheerfully sauté your food rather than steaming or boiling it, which can decrease the nutritive content. Hope this would help. Have a great day!

Q: I need a bit of clarification on the cooking directions.
It says after cooking, let rice stand for 10-15 minutes before removing lid. is the 10-15 minutes on the cook setting or the warm setting?
submitted by Allison - 7 months ago
A: Thank you for reaching out to Oster®. We value your continued support of our products and we are glad to answer your inquiry. The 10-15 minutes is on the warm setting. After cooking, the keep warm indicator light will illuminate. It is important to let the rice stand for 10-15 minutes of steaming without removing the lid. We hope this helps. Have a good day!
submitted byOster Brand Team - 3 months ago
Brand expert
A: The warm setting. After cooking it automatically flips to warm. At this point, the cook setting becomes disabled until the unit cools down.
submitted byTarget Shopper - 3 months ago
Q: Are there different settings for different types of rice?
submitted by JG - 1 year ago
A: No. Just an on button. The cooker seneses when the water has been absorbed by the rice (based on temperature) then kicks in to "keep warm" mode. You manually shut the unit off by unplugging it.
submitted byTarget Shopper - 1 year ago
A: Thank you for contacting the Oster® Brand. We appreciate your interest in our product and we are glad to answer your inquiry. Different types of rice can have different water ratios. However, for the settings, there’s only 1 setting on this model unit. You need to plug the cord into a 120-volt AC electrical outlet. Switch the rice cooker ON by pushing the button down. You may use this as a reference with the type of Rice: Cups of Water Ratios: Oriental/Soft Rice: 2 Cups of Water, 1 Cup of Rice Basmati/Indian Firm Rice: 1.5 Cups of Water, 1 Cup of Rice Brown Rice Varieties: 2 Cups & 2 Tablespoons Water, 1 Cup Rice Hope this information is useful. A: Thank you for contacting the Oster® Brand. We appreciate your interest in our product and we are glad to answer your question. This Oster® DiamondForce™ Nonstick 6-Cup Electric Rice Cooker has 700 watts. We hope this information is useful. Have a great day!

Q: I noticed that when you set the container on the electric receptacle that it doesn't sit flush? Is that supposed to be the case? My other rice makers have never done that to be before.
submitted by Nicole - 1 year ago
A: The inner pot won't sit flush when it's empty. That's normal. When you add the ingredients (rice and water) the added weight should make it sit flush.
submitted byTarget Shopper - 1 year ago
A: Thank you for contacting the Oster® Brand. We appreciate your time and effort for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry to hear that your rice cooker’s inner pot doesn’t seem to sit or be in direct contact with your heating base. No worries, we are here to help. Set the inner pot into the rice cooker. Make sure that the inner pot is in direct contact with the heating base by turning it slightly from left to right until it properly fits onto the heating base. Also, take note that you have to make sure the outside of the inner pot is completely dry before placing onto the heating plate. If the heating base is still not in direct contact with the inner pot after checking and the rice is not cooking or the rice cooker is not working, take note that our rice cookers have a year limited warranty. If you have any questions regarding the warranty or would like to obtain warranty service, please contact us so we can determine the best resolution. Have a great day!

Q: Which parts can go in the dishwasher?
One place in the description says it can go in the dishwasher, another place says this appliance is hand wash only. Can the rice cooker pot go in the dishwasher? What about the steamer basket, lid, and measuring cup?
submitted by LJ - 2 years ago
A: Thank you for reaching out to Oster® and we're so sorry for the confusion. The inner pot, lid, rice ladle and measuring cup are not dishwasher safe. Have a great day!
submitted byOster Brand Team - 2 years ago
Brand expert
A: The box it comes in says "DISHWASHER SAFE REMOVABLE POT". And the Oster website says "DISHWASHER-SAFE POT: Removable, nonstick, dishwasher-safe inner pot". Regarding the steamer basket, lid and measuring cup, Oster doesn't specify. So there you go!
submitted byTarget Shopper - 2 years ago
Q: Is the steaming tray made of plastic? Also, is the removable pot made of plastic?
submitted by Maddy - 2 years ago
A: The steaming tray is aluminum with plastic handles. The removable pot is also made of aluminum with a PTFE (aka teflon) coating along with the diamond particles. It does NOT have a DuraCeramic coating... that was the discontinued model.
submitted byTarget Shopper - 2 years ago
A: Thank you for contacting Oster®! Good question. The steaming tray of our Oster DiamondForce Nonstick 6-Cup Electric Rice Cooker is made of aluminum and the rice pot has a DuraCeramic non-stick ceramic coating that is infused with titanium pieces.
Stop working after 3 weeks. Since I didn’t purchase the guarantee I couldn’t return it :/

This little cooker produces perfect rice every time, even brown rice. Although some goo accumulates on the lid while cooking, it is a huge improvement over my last cooker which would deposit a big puddle of slime on the countertop. I would definitely buy this rice cooker again, works well, easy to clean, good price.

Brand new item, looks nice but doesn't work. Cheap, but you get what you pay for. Tried cooking Jasmine rice. We pushed the button down. After 5 mintues, it popped up, rice uncooked. The only way to keep it down is to add more water, but then you have too much water and the rice is super mushy and watery. The item is also not meant for Basmati rice. Tried that as well, but even with the proper amount of water and only 2 cups of uncooked rice, this cooker completely boiled over while cooking and spilled all over our counter. Not for asian rices at all.

I have wanted to purchase a rice cooker for a while, and after reading the reviews, I settled on this one. I just made my first pot of rice and it’s perfect. I used 2 cups - the rice maker measuring cup, not a traditional kitchen measuring cup (the two are NOT the same when using a rice cooker!) - filled the pot with water to the number two line, put the lid on and flipped the switch. In less than 15 minutes I had four cooked-to-perfection cups of jasmine rice. No bubbling over the pot, no blowing water through the steam hole, no burning on the bottom. Just perfect rice. This is not a large rice cooker, but it’s a perfect size for 1 to 2 people or small kitchens. The first photo has an 8 ounce juice glass next to it for scale. I haven’t tried the steamer basket yet, but I plan on trying it by steaming some gyoza. So for now, on day one, I am giving this rice cooker five stars.

I bought this a year or so ago and it worked really well to cook brown and wild rice (Iusually don't make white at home), but the last couple of times I used it, it shut off in the middle of cooking. Tonight, I made sure it was seated in the heating base and turned it like it said in the book and turned it on at 5:01. I came and checked it about 12 minutes later and it was working. At 5:28, it was off and the rice was only half cooked. I turned it back on, but the rice wasn't done until after dinner. There was plenty of water left both times it did this, so not using too little water, 1 rice cup brown rice to 2-1/2 rice cups water. The valve was not plugged or blocked. This is the second time this has happened. What is wrong?

Thank you for reaching out to Oster®. We are sorry to hear that your rice cooker is not heating up. This is certainly not the experience we want you to have. No worries, we are here to help. If your rice cooker is not heating up, it might be because the unit is not getting enough power from the wall outlet where it is currently plugged in or the wall outlet itself is a non working outlet. To remedy this issue, check if there is no physical damage on its cord and if there's none, try unplugging the rice cooker. Let the unit rest for 3-5 minutes. Afterwards, plug it into a different wall outlet. Do not use it with any extension cords, power strips and power converters or inverters as it may affect the rice cooker's performance. Also, please switch the rice cooker ON by pushing the button down. Your Oster® DiamondForce™ Nonstick 6-Cup Electric Rice Cooker has a 1-year limited warranty. If this doesn't resolve your issue, we'd like to kindly request that you contact us directly in order to help you get to the best resolution. Have a good day!

I’m not much of a cook, so anything that I can “set and forget” is ideal for me. I read that rice cookers make perfect rice and could be used to steam vegetables so I wanted to give it a try. I rinsed the rice first and used the provided cup to measure one “cup” of a mixed grain rice and one “cup” of water. I put “cup” in quotes because the provided cup is not equal to a standard 8oz measuring cup. It is 180mL when filled to the top. I used a timer to see how long it would take to steam the water out down here near sea level. It was just shy of 22 minutes. During cooking the glass lis made cracking sounds and ricey water oozed out of the steam hole in the lid. I can imagine that if I made a full batch it would make a mess as others have claimed because I only made 1/3 of the capacity of the rice maker. The instructions recommended to let it sit 10 minutes before removing the lid, so I did. When I opened it to stir, the purple rice had formed a kind of film on the bottom of the pot. My rice was still too firm after that. It does say that brown rice may take longer and it was mostly brown with some red and purple rice. I added a half “cup” and turned it back on. It took just over 8 minutes for it to boil off that time. I didn’t let it sit another 10 minutes this time because I was growing tired of the experiment, I was just careful when removing the lid. The texture was a little bit better. I added some pats of butter and microwaved it 30 seconds to melt it. I enjoyed it after that. One little “cup” of dried rice yielded enough to fill a small paper howl. I don’t like how it turns on immediately after being plugged in; since it’s a hot tool that seems unsafe to me. Overall it seems to work as designed. I will have to experiment with the ratio of grains to water to see what I like, so it’s not a “set it and forget it” appliance for me yet. I haven’t tried steaming vegetables yet. It was simple to use and easy to clean but will take some experimenting to get it right. I don’t hate it, but I’m not impressed either. There are probably better rice makers out there, but this one is affordable enough that you can try something new without a ton of regret.

I can only put one cup in it and boils over and makes a giant mess. Like one review said “you can’t turn your back on it” This should be discontinued until they fix the issues. I’ve spent less for better rice cooked before. Idk how you mess up so bad with a product. The photo attached is after I’ve cleaned 90% of it up that spilt over all over my counters…

This was my first rice cooker and I don't have much counter space, so I went for the small one. We've had this a year now and use it at least twice weekly. I've also made grits and risotto in it. It works great. But you can only cook about two cups (uncooked) rice and we've outgrown it.
