love that I could do this without bleaching out first. this color is specifically for brown hair. one word of warning, put down old towels around you. it turns everything it touches purple! paste like consistency so it doesn't run, which is great!

I bought this in Rose Gold for my daughter who has dark blonde/light brown hair. The box indicated this would come out bright and vibrant for her hair color. I sectioned her hair and applied almost the whole container to her shoulder length hair. I let her sit for about 25 minutes and aside from making her smell like a mint leaf it did absolutely nothing. Don’t waste your money.

I bought the rose gold for brown hair and the first day there was maybe a touch of change, but pretty minor. It was a fun introduction to this brand, but I think it would be a lot more substantial on lighter hair, or lightened hair, if you're looking for something you can actually see the difference in, and not just something that makes your hair soft and smell nice (which it did!). I'll be trying some bolder colors soon. Definitely a fun purchase.

I've been using Overtone Semi-Permanent Conditioner for 2 years and I love it. It's very easy to apply, it leaves my hair beautifully conditioned and the color is absolutely perfect. Two years in and people still compliment me on the color. (I use purple.) And thanks to my local Target for always having it in stock!

I have slightly bleached color so it shows up really well on my hair. It lasts around 4-5 washes. The only downside is that it is damaging to my hair. I am seeing a lot of split ends after using it which deviates from their claim of non damaging color.

I have black hair that tends to lighten from sun and mild relaxers. I used this in BLUE shade to condition and tone my hair back to a crisp neutral black. It worked beautifully. It took a long time to rinse out completely (hence the minus star) but thick formula which feels identical to Manic Panic is easy to apply with no drippage. Just as the instructions say...it will NOT dye your black hair/off black hair blue. But it works great as a conditioning toner. The jar is pretty big. I have enough left over for a second application and my hair is just past shoulders and medium thick. I will def buy again.

Anyway, I was hanging on the edge, contemplating giving overtone a try because I was looking to try something subtle, but new with my long medium thick brown hair without breaking the bank. I came to read reviews but disappointed that the app won’t display them. Anyway, I pulled the trigger and purchased the Rose Gold Overtone at my local target and last night applied the entire container (took maybe 10-15 min to apply) and left it on for a full hour. I followed the directions and rinsed it out, did not wash. I didn’t apply any of my usual products, but did towel then blow dried on medium heat bc I hate going to bed with wet hair. This morning I straightened it and I absolutely love it! It didn’t really alter my natural brown “roots” (basically the top half of my head) aside from maybe evening out my natural color but it really popped up the bottom hair of my hair with Rosy Gold and I had some strips of highlight that went a little more pink. I’m so impressed with this stuff. It gave me the subtle change I was looking for AND my hair is so soft and shiny after using! I just hope it lasts a good 4-6 weeks (I usually wash my hair twice a week and use hot tools once a week). It also smells really good (almost like a deep peppermint scent but not overbearing). I would highly recommend (especially to those whose hair types are recommended on the box) and will definitely be purchasing again. I think I might go with the standard Pink next time, but honestly the rose gold is so perfect I might just stick with it!

I typically use a semi-permanent from a different brand. It's half the price, but worked much better. My hair was already a purple tinge, so i hoped this would brighten it. This product deposited oil on my hair, and color on my scalp. It also left my scalp sore (which others probably won't experience). I'm going back to my regular brand when all of this washes out.

This is my second time using this specific color. On my grey hair it’s amazing and my nieces hair is darker and it still gave her a really great color. She’s thrilled!

Overtone made my hair feel, look, and smell amazing! It was a little tricky to apply to dry hair because it was so thick, but it wasn’t too bad. I have medium-long hair and I wound up using the full 8 oz jar. I left it on for 1 hour even though it says you could leave it on for 15 mins but the longer you leave it on the brighter the color turns out. Overall, I’m very pleased with Overtone!

I’m a natural ginger but wanted to go red, this went over my hair so well. I just put it in before i went in the shower than washed it out at the end. I love the result

I got my hair dyed a red wine but it always fades into the brown auburn color which I don’t like. This total revamped them dark reds and purples!!! Glad I went with the pink rather than the red or purple versions!!!!

I've been using Overtone for a few years now and rose gold is my favorite color for spring/summer. Instead of having to bleach my hair, I get to keep the dark brown I inherited from my mom while highlighting my hard-earned silvers in a pink with gold undertones. Trick with using this product is to wash your hair first with a clarifying shampoo only, let your hair dry completely without putting in any product, then put on the color. Minimum 20 minutes for the color to take properly, but it'll take more intensely if you leave it in 40-60 minutes. You don't actually need to use a lot. Using a hair coloring brush helps to get more even coverage so you don't waste product. I've found that I use less to get the same effect I achieve with other seemingly less-expensive semi-permanent dyes, so after the initial dye, one jar of the dye will last me several weeks of color maintenance/hair treatments. You will get the hang of how much you need to use for your hair, as well as how long you need to leave it in to get the overcolor you want. (Coloring in brown hair shows best in the sunlight, by the bye, so go outside to check out your golden pink halo, fellow brunettes! This means the color will be much more subtle in office/fluorescent lighting, so if your boss is anything like my last one, they won't know to complain about your "unprofessional" hair.) Best part is my curls are happier and healthier after l use this. Bonus: your hair will smell great. No chemical stink here (unlike with a lot of other semi-permanent dyes). Fair warning: I've friends whose hair refuses to absorb any dye without bleaching first, including this product. You might be better off buying a sample size directly from their site at first to see if it will work in your hair. Because of this, I'm knocking off a star for Effectiveness, since it's not universally so, and one star for Value, since sinking $25 for the whole jar if you're not certain it'll work with your hair seems like a lot to ask. (I wish Target sold their sample sizes...and more of the colors available on their site.)

Dyed my hair a few times with one container. Great product! The color is very vibrant and last pretty long for a semi permanent dye. I use this instead of permanent dye and I absolutely love it.

Have always wanted to add color in my hair- but hate the bleach look after it grows out! This was a fun and easy color that worked on my dark hair. Careful when rinsing because it can get messy!

I love how the color turns out! I had used many hair dyes before and they didn’t work on my dark hair, but I tried the red and the rose gold and it was so bright! Also, these containers are huge and you can dye it so many times! :)

This product super exceeded my expectations! The texture of my hair after applying it, silky smooth, the color, vibrant blue even on darker toned hair, beautiful and the smell is pleasant minty scent. Overall, 10/10 for not leaving hair brittle and dull after color treatment.
