The grass grew well, no complaints

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Planted in heat of summer, grew better than expected that time of year initially, then seemed to thin out a bit. All in all I would purchase again if I find myself needing to plant grass in July or August.

Not impressed

I bought this to overseed my lawn this fall and was particularly interested in the heat intolerant Blue Mix. I prepped my yard and applied the grass seed as directed on the bag. Sadly, I would not purchase this seed again. On top of bare areas now growing weeds unlike before, I can't see or find where the seed even germinated. Extremely disappointed. I would give no stars if possible.

It'd been over a month now and even with overseeding, I only have about a 25% germination rate. Not worth the price I paid.

Steve, we are sorry that the germination rate of your Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Heat-Tolerant Blue Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns was unsatisfactory. There are a variety of factors that play a role in successful germination, and if even just one of these factors is not right the germination of the seed can be affected greatly. Here at Scotts, it is always our goal to produce the highest quality products and we stand by the promises made in our advertisements. When a product does not function as it should, we want to hear from you in order to improve our services. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. I covered this seed with a thin layer of sphagnum Pete moss. I kept it moist and it literally germinated in 6 days. This is my go to grass seed.

Here are some before and after pics of the Scotts heat tolerant blue grass seed. My yard is very small I overseeded in August 26,2018. Started with bare spots and lots of weeds. It’s now summer 2019 and the grass is doing great in the 3 digit weather here in Southern California.

MIsleading and COnflicting Coverage Settings

This page says this 7 lb bag covers 750 sq feet with a broadcast setting of 15. The directions on the BAG say 580 sq ft with a setting of 10. That is a BIG difference. Heat tolerant Bluegrass seed is only 2.88% of the mix. I feel mislead
1 reply from Consumer Service team - 5 years ago
We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with Scotts Turf Builder Heat-Tolerant Blue Mix. There are two different broadcast spreader settings and coverages for this product. A setting of 10 on a Scotts Broadcast spreader and coverage of 580 sq ft is for seeding a new lawn. For an overseeding, a setting of 8 is used and will cover 1,750 sq ft. Nice product. I feel like I got decent growth out the seed. Product was easy to use and i would recommend this seed if it fit your need. It was great on the small space I used it on. The grass seemed to stand up to the summer heat well. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Received the Scotts Turf Builder grass seed as a sample. We have sandy soil with bare spots. I used over the summer. It filled in nicely and grew strong, was easy to apply. Easy to see where it was distributed on the spots around the lawn. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have had trouble getting grass to not burn out in a certain part of my yard by mid-late summer. This seed grew nicely and by mid-late summer still looked good. I was impressed because I have tried multiple other brand seeds to no avail. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

If you want the ultimate lawn, and your climate can accommodate it, there is nothing better than this mixture. It contains Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass in the proper percentages. It also the addition of Scotts heat tolerant formula. You can't go wrong with a Scotts proct. I highly recommend it! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I live in south, south Texas, I have a good sprinkler system, and even with regular watering this grass seed was not able to last the summer. I planted in the fall and it came in great, was beautiful all winter and spring, then as soon as summer hit I couldn't water it enough, I literally doubled my water bill trying to keep it alive but to no use. I can only hope that it's just dormant for the summer but now without grass the weeds have really kicked in. Going to try a different brand to see if I get better results.
1 reply from Consumer Service team - 6 years ago

Really Can Take The Heat

5 out of 5 stars
MerryGardener - 6 years ago
originally posted on Scotts
I held off on making a recommendation for this seed because any seed will grow when the weather is cool and wet. But when that ideal spring weather has past and it becomes hot and dry I need a grass that can take the heat. This grass still looks great now that it is summer with hot and dry conditions. It truly is heat tolerant as decribed by Scotts. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Heat tolerant seed is doing well

I planted the Heat-Tolerant Blue® mix in Spring on fresh top soil. Since it was in full sun most of the day I had to water three or more times each day for a three week period. The seed came up well and is now in good shape even in a full sun area of the yard. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
