Inspiring & Hopeful

This is book five in the Chaparral Hearts series but it gives enough background that it could be read as a stand-alone. I read book four as a stand-alone as I had not read the previous books. I wish I had as I have enjoyed the two I have read tremendously as they keep you engaged from the beginning. I was so glad Lucy has her own story but a warning it does contain some difficult circumstances that could be a trigger for some people, but it is handled tastefully and thoughtfully with hope always shining through. I love that the characters are raw and real with situations that happened to them that caused trauma but by the grace of God have lead them out of the dark times into the light of the perfect plan for their lives. At times I shed tears and other things had me smiling. I enjoyed the different points of view as it gives you a broader perspective of the story. I found this to be very well written with characters I loved and descriptive words that had me feeling like I was in the desert experiencing the difficulties they encountered in the 1870’s. I highly recommend this moving experience. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

“Shoot at the Sunset” is an absorbing story that gave me all the feels. Lucy and Preston are so easy to connect with and I enjoyed their journey and growth. As with the rest of this series, the historical details really make things come to life. It’s evident a lot of research and heart went into this story. I enjoyed the progression Lucy and Preston make in their hearts, minds, and souls. And most importantly, I love the spiritual elements and message of faith. The cover is what initially grabbed my attention, and the first few paragraphs captured me fully. With twists and turns, secrets, dangers, and action, this book kept me turning pages. The story deals with sensitive matters, but does so with grace, respect, and sensitivity. If you enjoy clean, historical, and western stories, this story (and series) is a fabulous choice. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are 100% mine.

I loved this book! Preston and Lucy both drew me and made me love them immediately. With a diverse cast of secondary characters and a suspenseful plot, Shoot at the Sunset kept me fully engaged until the final word of the epilogue. Various characters dealt with different aspects of the feelings of inadequacy and helplessness to change who they’d become due to the circumstances they’d been thrust into. But the faith messages of finding your worth in Christ and nothing being impossible with God were heartthrilling reminders that no one is beyond hope and that even the lowest of people in the lowest of places can find life and forgiveness, if given a second chance. With suspense, romance, danger and themes of hope and forgiveness, this novel was thrillingly captivating and well worth the read! Highly recommended!

Great Historical Romance

Shoot at the Sunset, the fifth book in the wonderful Chaparral Hearts series, is an entertaining, inspiring read. This fictional story, set in the 1870’s in California and inspired by real people and places, is rich in historical detail evidencing extensive research. The author’s expressive way with words allows you to feel the emotions of the characters and experience the sights and sounds of the beautifully sketched setting. I greatly appreciate the valuable, encouraging faith lessons integrated into the story. Sensitive subjects are handled with care and thoughtfulness offering insight and hope. The characters are beautifully crafted and endearing although there are a few who are not so nice. They all kept me immersed in the story from beginning to end! This mixture of thrilling adventure, inspiring faith, and sweet romance is everything Historical Christian Romance should be. I highly recommend this book. Note: Although the book works well as a standalone, your reading experience will be enhanced by first reading the previous books in the series for background information and a better connection to the characters. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
