Food for Thought

I found the book to be average. The author has a clear bias that can distract the reader from objectively reviewing the facts about consuming animal based products. She does reiterate many truths about the harm of consuming too much dairy and meat (especially when those products come from the factory-farming industry). However, the research and evidence she sites in the book is used in a way that does disservice to the critical thinking skills of her readers. I feel it might have been more helpful for the author to present the evidence as it is while giving her readers the opportunity to conduct their own research and draw their own conclusions. Furthermore, she frames the idea of eating healthy as a "beauty" issue. While it's true that one's physical appearance can improve from making healthy changes in food choices, it seems counterproductive and inappropriate to focus primarily on physical appearance, since good health is a combination of many things. Improvements in a person's physical appearance is only one result of eating healthier. There is also a preoccupation with losing weight. Obesity is a serious problem, but it shouldn't overshadow equally problematic issues with weight, such as unintentional weight loss, and eating disorders connected to both weight gain and weight loss.
