About the Book
"First published in 2010 as The essential stitch collection for knitters"--Copyright press.Book Synopsis
A fabulous collection of 300 brand new stitches and timeless classics to knit This is a creative guide to the 300 knitting stitches you really need to know, including brand new stitches and timeless classics. An invaluable resource of original stitch patterns, this collection is for newcomers, designers and knitters of all abilities. Instead of being merely a round-up of familiar stitches, this is a visual feast of new material put together by two author-designers with a wide experience of hand knitting. It is a must-have addition to existing reference books on the subject. Organized for easy access, the stitches are organized into knit and purl textures and ribs, twist stitches, cables, lace, bobbles and bells, colour and intarsia designs, and unusual techniques including rarities like entrelac, double-sided fabric and mosaic effects. Easy-to-read charts are provided throughout.Review Quotes
Booklist October 15, 2021 Stanfield's classic receives a facelift in The Knitter's Stitch Collection. Originally called The Essential Stitch Collection for Knitters, the fundamental framework of the book is relatively unchanged. Divided into eight categories, from knit and purl to letters and numbers, every section first displays all the stitches in color swatches (called the stitch selector), then singles out the stitch, featuring a bit of description along with charts and, usually, written directions.Dominated by cable and lace variations, the stitch names are fairly evocative: Celtic knot, kilimstar, polka dot, allium. Symbols run as a bottom-of-the-page banner and are more thoroughly explained in the last chapter along with inserts on using the stitches, a gallery of ideas, instructions on essential techniques, and abbreviations and symbols. Still a vital reference for any category of knitter. Spruce Crafts - Best Knitting Books - Best Stitch Featuring the top stitches for knitters, this book offers a collection of 300 favorite stitches both new and old. Regardless of skill level, readers will find a treasure trove of projects to dive into. Written by two highly experienced hand knitters, this guide is well-organized and chock full of instruction, explanatory images, and diagrams. There's also a banner that runs along the bottom of each page with symbols used in the patterns and a full explanation in the final chapter.
