As others said, these do have a strong odor that smells a little like urine. I bought three of them, and they were exactly what I was looking for to store toys. I sprayed them with Febreeze, and it helped tone down the odor. They have a more natural, straw smell now that isn’t nearly as strong.

I bought this about a year ago and I thought it fit in my apartment really well. However, I recently found that the scarves I kept in this cube smelled really mildew-y. To my horror, I found orange spots of mold on my scarves and the entire inside of the cube was orange and moldy! Looks great aesthetically, but if you live somewhere humid, avoid getting this. Three of my cashmere scarves were ruined, hopefully this won't happen to any other potential buyers.

I bought this basket for decor purposes, so I wasn't necessarily concerned with its texture. I planned on using it on a console table with nothing in it. Sometimes these types of baskets can be scratchy making them not ideal for storage. I quickly changed its purpose to storage when I felt the quality. Love Brightroom's products.
