Q: What is the total interior space by height, meaning the maximum height per shelf if the shelves are centered in the unit. I have books I intend to store in these but they are 13" high so I would need enough room for this on both shelves.

submitted byJulie - 8 years agoTarget staff supportA: 13" books would fit - but there IS a 1" lip at the top of each shelf ... so you would not be able to put the books on the shelf standing straigt upright, you will have to put them in at an angle and then straighten them up (so there will be space left over on each shelf).
submitted bytracey - 8 years agoA: When middle dividing shelf is centered there is 12" vertical clearance in both top and bottom sections, and it is adjustable to add more clearance. 13" books could fit upright in top or bottom section, but not both sections simultaneously.
submitted byChameleon - 7 years agoA: The interior height of the shelf space is 14 inches with the shelf centered. If your books are 13 inches tall, they will fit but the top 1 inch or so will be covered by a small, front-facing piece of wood that would also prevent the book from being placed/removed on/from the shelf without turning it sideways it little bit.
submitted byidimatt - 8 years agoA: The opening is <13" (about 12 1/2 inch) but if you tilted the 13inch book it would fit within the shelf which is about 13 1/2 inches. There is just a little lip in the top and bottom of the opening of the shelf itself.

Q: what is the back of the bookcase made of-- cardboard or plywood?

submitted byStephanie - 7 years agoTarget staff supportA: The middle shelf itself is about 3/4 to 1 inch but there is an approx 2 inch piece of wood at the front of the bookshelf for a lip to keep items in. There is also an approx 2 1/2 inch piece of wood attached to the bottom piece but it is flush and does not provide a lip for the bottom.

Q: If I'm going to use it for electronics, is there a hole in the backing to put wires and cords through?

submitted byChristopher - 7 years agoTarget staff supportA: There are no holes for wiring but it would be easy to make holes. I have been using these bookcases open-back for about 2 years. I did not apply the back panels. This allows for cord/wire routing, it looks nice and has held up well.

Q: Does the dividing board have to be placed in the middle or is it adjustable? I was wondering if I can place the dividing board in a way that my large books (height 13") can fit in.

Q: how long does it take to assemble by non-professional? Is there a target store in Portland, OR?
A: We have several of these bookcases and my husband did them all solo. Unlike some other stores, the instructions were easy to follow. I would say a few hours and you are set.

Q: Can I put 3 together to make one long bookcase? Will that look ok? Is there a way to connect them all together?

Q: In the white version, is the top of the bookshelf pure flat white? The picture online looks like it has wood grains in it. Thanks
A: It is not pure flat white, there is a very subtle grain to it. It is hardly noticable. I had to go and take a hard look at it just now. If you want a formica like finish this is not for you. I have bought many of these over the years for my clients and they are always very pleased. The quality is great for the price.

Q: I know the depth is 13" but how tall is the area from shelf bottom to shelf top. I'm buying cube storage containers and need to know how tall they can be to fit neatly inside the shelve (bottom shelve)
