Q: I just received this, and there is a small clear plastic piece on top of the metal tube that runs up the middle of the inside (where the max fill line sits). Am I supposed to take this off or leave it on? There is no mention of it in the manual. Thanks!

submitted bynatalie - 5 years agoA: I've had mine off for a couple of months now and haven't had any issues. I make sure to cover the metal tube opening with my finger when filling this up with water just so no water gets inside accidentally.

A: Did you remove the plastic hood inside the pot? It’s to keep water from getting into the tube, this is used to detect boiling.
submitted byOINC - 3 years agoA: Yes, mine leaked right away. There are some serious quality control issues here. Target gave me a refund, and I now have a flower pot - for artificial flowers, since I don't want water to leak everywhere.

Q: I purchased this kettle because my ceramic kettle stopped working suddenly after a year, did anyone notice the water boiled in this kettle is not as hot as other kettles (if you've used any before) that held bigger water capacity and high wattage of 1500?

A: I was able to boil about 16oz of water in 2 1/2 minutes. Boiling water is 212 degrees. I don't know how it could be less hot if its boiling... It'd have to be at least 212 degrees.

Q: is there any plastic in this kettle? I'm looking for one that has no plastic parts (including handle) I'm ok with Wood but not plastic.

A: Yes, there is a small plastic piece on the inside of the kettle. Also I think the handle also has it on the top of the lid.

Q: The Target description does not mention automatic turn-off when it boils. But on another site, it looks like it does. Does this one? I want to use a gift card & get this one if it does. Thanks

A: This item does feature automatic shut off. After the kettle reaches the appropriate temperature, the device will shut off. The On switch’s light will turn off and the switch will return to the original position.

A: The plastic cover for the boil detection tube is not in contact with water unless you have overfilled the kettle.

A: Hello, Unfortunately this gooseneck kettle only allows for the water to reach a boil. At that point, the kettle will automatically shut off. Enjoy!

The bodum gooseneck kettle has been key during our kitchen renovation. Functionality is excellent. Fairly quick. I mainly bought this particular kettle for the way it looks; however, it has proven itself. I look forward to using it for tea and French press for years to come. Incredibly easy to use. My children will be able to use this in the future as well.

This water kettle heats water so fast! I couldn’t believe the water was boiling hot in what felt like less than a minute. Really perfect for hot tea or pour over coffee.

I bought this years ago because I wanted a kettle without plastic touching the hot water. This kettle is a good size for a normal sized coffee press. I don't mind the lack of adjustable temperature, because the lack of any real digital aspect of this product hopefully means there are fewer pieces to break. I recently bought one for my mother because I love it so much. The only downside I have seen is that the cork is already starting to wear after 2 years of daily use. I don't mind the weathered look but just know this won't stay pristine looking forever. I have not had the leak issues some others have commented about, but if I had, I would simply request a refund and get another one.

For all those people blaming the "leak" of this product. I am also guilty for blaming it the defective until I noticed this. If you don't pour the water into the kettle carefully, it leaks. Ring the bell? You see the pipe sticking up in the middle of the kettle, and the top of it is open. It may have metal cover but it still shows the top open, right? ANY WATER GOES INTO THAT PIPE COMES OUT FROM THE BOTTOM AS WHAT YOU CALL "LEAK". Be careful when you pour the water to this kettle not to pour any water go into that pipe. Ta-da! No leak at all.
One year later and still works perfectly!

I adore this little kettle. I use it every single day. I bought one after my roommate moved away and took his with him. I love that it heats water quickly and most importantly that it turns off automatically when the water is the right temperature. I have to buy one now for a friend who was visiting recently and was utterly charmed with it when I made our evening tea.

I've had this kettle for over a year and it has performed great for 6/7 days of the week. Sometimes we just opt for the Keurig. If you fill over the "max" line it will leak. If you get water in the tube - it will leak. Avoid these things and the kettle will work great for you. I'll buy another should this one ever give out.

Looks great, terrible quality. The finish chips off and flakes everywhere. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.
