Description

The FoodSaver 2-In-1 Food Preservation System creates airtight food storage bags that keep food fresh up to five times longer than ordinary storage methods. This vacuum sealing system features an Express Bag Maker that allows you pull out the desired amount from the bag roll and cut it with the slide of a lever, automatically sealing one end for ready-to-use, custom-sized bags. Q: I bought this last June and it seals fine but not vacumming at all. Is there a factory warranty on it?

  • A: Hello, thank you for taking your time to post this review. Your feedback is important to us. We are sorry to hear that your Vacuum Sealer FM5200 is not working as intended. Every Vacuum Sealer is covered by the warranty. We would highly suggest trying some of the following troubleshooting that might help with the issue: 1. For units with removable gaskets, remove the lower gasket, turn it over and re-insert it into the track that runs around the vacuum channel. Also, check the other gasket. 2. It may be necessary to pre-freeze moist/soft food items to prevent moisture from compromising an effective vacuum/seal. These items include meats, fish, poultry, soft fruits, and blanched vegetables. 3. Test your FoodSaver by operating it without a bag. Allow the unit to complete the cycle. When the unit shuts off, lift the lid and gently touch the heat strip. If it is hot, please try to seal another bag. 4. Check the upper and lower gaskets of the machine. If either of these is damaged or dirty, the unit will not vacuum properly. Clean any food materials from the gaskets. Remove the lower gasket, flip it over, reinsert it into the unit and test the unit. 5. Make sure the open end of the bag is resting entirely inside of the Vacuum Channel. The edge of the bag should not go beyond the Vacuum Channel. Do not make your own side seams for a FoodSaver Bag. They are manufactured with special side seams sealed all the way to the outer edge. 6. Check the bag for leaks. Seal the bag with some air in it. Submerge it in water and apply pressure. Bubbles indicate a leak. If the bag has a leak, a new bag is needed. 7. We recommend you pre-freeze meats and other moist foods for 1-2 hours before vacuum sealing. Excess liquids from moist foods can cause the unit not to vacuum and permanent damage can occur. Q: Does this allow you to seal jars with a lid attachment?

  • A: It sure can! You just have to disassemble Handheld Sealer by removing the clear bottom portion from the top handle. Insert tip into the port on the canister or the marinators. However, if it is a jar, you may need a Wide Mouth or Regular Mouth Mason Jar Sealers to make it work.

Q: Dry/ wet button will not stop flashing and company wont answer call?

  • A: The dry / moist button usually flashes when there is moisture in the FoodSaver. Open up the FoodSaver, take out the drip tray, wash and dry it. Also make sure it is all dry underneath. You can also leave your FoodSaver open and the drip tray out for at least 4 hours for the FoodSaver to dry. For further assistance, please call us at (877) 777-8042. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] got this for christmas a couple years back and i hated it the first time i used it. i thought “no problem its just a weird design and you have to learn to use it.” I STILL HATE IT. worst design ever. if the bag is too short, you have to hold it while it vacuum/seals it. didnt seal properly? that sucks. you have to do the whole vacuum again instead of just the sealing part. i hate this design so much and want a different one so badly. DONT GET THIS ONE.

Excellent machine, but it takes a bit of practice to use it properly (hence the four rather than 5 stars). Read the directions thoroughly and perhaps a couple of times with a dry run before attempting to use it for real. Once I got the hang of how to use it, it's easy and very effective ... but getting the hang of it is not intuitive.

For the life of me, I just can’t seem to make this thing work. I’ve watched two YouTubes and read carefully the instruction sheet and as far as I can get is the bottom seal, it goes to pot after that. Forget cutting, cutter won’t slide, stops at bag edge. Only way to cut is using scissors and it doesn’t like apparently, the jagged edge. I’m at a loss—toy is smarter than me! Must find another method to preserve foods for the future—this one isn’t the answer.

Horror be machine with a terrible design-do you have to hold all of your food up 5 inches to be able to seal it even if it seals maybe one out of 10 tries. They need to bring back the designs were your food actually days on the countertop while your sealing designs those work. See you end up spending a ton of money I’m gonna sheen that is just worthless and takes up a lot of space.

Do not purchase this product. It’s nice when it’s working. However, it appears the accessory tool has a life of about 3 months…then the vacuum gives out!!! Purchased 1. Vacuum sealed bags place in refrig didn’t last AT ALL. Then hose stopped vacuuming after 3 months. Purchased a BRAND NEW replacement. Now having the SAME exact problem with vacuum sealer. Literally stopped working overnight

It was ok. A little clumsy to use, when you are trying to hold a bag up and then use both hands to initiate the vacuum. It was loud. It worked for almost 2 yrs, then wouldn't turn on. I'm a little disappointed in it's lasting power. Going to look at a different brand for the replacement.

Had food saver for many years and it finally conked out. Replaced it with FM5200 and now regret it. I am 83 so it is a challenge to hold bag and hit bar with both hands to seal bag. Keep it simple. Oh to have my old machine back in working order.

This works well but the arms that pull the clear cover tight break after a couple years of moderate use. This has happened to two different 5200s I've owned. Steer clear of this model!!

I bought this to replace an old one that stopped sealing, after years & years of use. I really like Foodsavers but this model is a bust. You have to hold the bags up to vacuum and seal or the edges will flip out of the channel. Also, any least bit of moisture shuts it down and you have to wait until the flashing lights turn off (not a pause - minutes) I'm now freezing veggies THEN trying to vacuum & seal. I also have to have a container in front of the unit to hold the bag up towards the vacuum channel.

We purchased this product for my kids for Christmas in 2021 and had to have it replaced under warranty within a month for not pulling a vacuum. The new one is just over a year old and doing the same thing. We've confirmed that the seals are clean and the bag is installed properly, and nothing in the way that would keep it from pulling a vacuum. I love my food saver, but the new generation is not the same quality.

Hard to use

I've had a FoodSaver for many years and always loved them until this model. It is extremely hard to hold the bag in and have to push the bar with both hands. But I can't replace it until this one completely doesn't work anymore. Half the time now it doesn't even suck out the air and it's only a couple of years old. Is there anything that can be done to make it work better?
