Description
The Portola Hills Caned-Door Console with Fully Assembled Shelves from Threshold™ designed with Studio McGee boasts the perfect blend of retro-inspired style and modern flair. This beautiful console cabinet features a hardwood frame in a lovely finish, but the real interest comes from a pair of curved cabinet doors finished with cane inserts on either end of the cabinet. Round legs and an oval top carry the smooth shape through the whole piece, while two central shelves let you display your favorite accent pieces even as you keep odds and ends out of sight in the cabinets. Use it in your entryway or dining room for a lovely and functional decorative element, or stock it with your favorite spirits and give it a home in your den for a tasteful bar setup.

Q: What kind of wood is the lighter version of this cabinet? It's not walnut.
submitted by Julie - 2 years ago
A: They say it is white ash but it is actually a gold and brown oak look. Not a blond Ash color.

A: Hi Julie – Great question. The veneer on the lighter, natural item is white ash. Thanks for stopping by! - Phonsavanh

Q: What’s the usable width and depth of the side compartments? I’d like to tuck some speakers in that space.

A: Hello - Thanks for reaching out regarding this console. The dimensions of the cabinets are as follows: Interior Width of Cabinets: 9.4 inches; Interior Depth of Cabinets: 15.7 inches; Interior Height of Cabinets: 22.8 inches. Have a wonderful day! - Brianna

A: Assuming your speakers are not curved the maximum space for them would be 22.75” high, 11” deep, 7.75” wide this size would allow you to close the cabinets fully. There is more space than this footprint but the side piece into which the front and back wicker panels screw extends almost 3” into the cabinet and limits the space for a hard sided speaker. FYI there is a small window into the space to feed cords through.

A: Hi - The overall dimensions are, 30 Inches (H) x 39 Inches (W) x 18 Inches (D). Thanks for inquiring!
I loved the design of this console, but the quality is not it! There’s multiple chips in the wood, and even after I followed every instruction to the dot, it doesn’t fit entirely well together, the doors don’t close right and there’s gaps where the shelf is supposed to be…

I loveeeee this cabinet. Great quality and perfect statement piece. I have been looking for a good cabinet to hold my record player and vinyls. This exceeded all expectations! My speakers even fit perfectly in the side doors with no reverberations because of the wicker style. If you have someone even semi-handy in the house ignore these bad reviews. Took my husband less than a hour a to build and he didn’t have to drill any holes or any of the things listed in previous reviews. Def recommend!

1. took me roughly 2 hours to put together, working nonstop. i have never put together furniture before ever, so i didn’t think that was that bad. wish the instructions were cleared about which way pieces should be facing and details like that 2. the pre drilled holes kind of suck. had to really force the doors into place to get them screwed on. one of the legs with the metal threaded part was super off and i had to force it and even then only got the screw halfway in. the front legs are flush with the top, but the back legs are not. one of the doors doesn’t really close all the way, even after adjusting the hinges every possible way 3. came missing one teeny tiny screw for the middle shelf to go on 4. overall, quality is meh. if i didn’t love the way it looks i’d probably have given it 2 stars

Although I love it and it exactly fits my style, the assembly was ridiculous. Although the directions specifically say not to use a drill I would not have been able to assemble without it. Not to mention that some of the parts had holes drilled incorrectly that I had to drill to enlarge them to make it possible to assemble. All said and done I would still purchase this because ultimately it is exactly what I was looking for and is a very good quality in my opinion.

a pain to assemble

When all the comments say this is an absolute pain to put together, believe them. None of the holes line up, unless you have a power drill and want to redo them you’ll just be muscling screws in best you can and hoping the thing doesn’t fall apart randomly one day.

The item is pretty when put together. The console was almost impossible to put together. The holes did not align to put on the cabinet doors. My husband had to purchase shims to get the holes to even get close to line up and then he had to drill the holes further in order to screw the cabinet doors on. If it hadn’t been for his help, it would not have gone together. When I reported “fix and issue” my only option was to disassemble and try and fit it all back in to the box to return. Very frustrating and not the quality I was expecting.

Missing and Wrong Pieces

I started assembling only to realize that I did not receive a top piece with a smooth top, but rather 2 of the bottom pieces. Up to that point, assembly was difficult and unclear too. I wish I would've listened to the negative reviews. As it seems I can't just be sent the correct piece, I will be returning the enitre thing.
Overall a nice piece, but pre-drilled holes on leg “K” are reversed. It was made wrong and table cannot be put together without using your own wood screws and a drill. Im not sure how to get replacement parts or if it’s even possible. I’m sure this was a one off situation, but be warned that some pieces might be wrong and a little bit of creativity might be involved to fix it.

This was the worst piece of furniture I’ve ever put together (and I have done many). It took many hours over several days. The components had manufactured defects so it was never perfect but I got it very close once put together. Note the piece is low quality wood with the back cover is cardboard (like a cheap walmart item). Once put together it looks beautiful as long as cardboard back is against the wall. I returned it once put together bc it was bulkier than I liked but it was unique and interesting. Wouldn’t recommend buying.

This stand looks great in our house and honestly looks more expensive than it is. We use it for our record player, console, and record & book storage below. We did have to get a new small console to fit in the shelf since most sizes will not fit. The measurements listed online are accurate. The doors on the side aren't super functional, but we have speakers in there and it hides them nicely. The top does scratch or stain easily so be careful with sliding things around on here. We've always get a lot of compliments on this piece.

I'm so glad I found this great entryway table! It wasn't as terrible to put together as I thought it would be. I'd say it's intermediate difficulty; I was able to do it myself in an hour and a half. (Tip - lightly hammer the dowels into the back doors before screwing them in!) The quality was as expected for the price point - there were some places where the finish was uneven, but the overall design is nice. Looks right at home next to pieces from Crate and Barrel.

Assembling this took years off my life. There are incredibly too many parts for such a small piece of furniture. This is also very overpriced for what it is. The door panel holes do not line up on the walnut piece. It took me almost 6 hours to put this together and trust me, I’ve assembled ikea furniture in a fraction of the time it took me to do this. It was on the verge of being returned until I realized I could adjust the screws on the door hinges to make the doors shut. The one door was hanging on for dear life for a while. It’s an ok piece. Not something I’d ever purchase again in this lifetime. The only pros- is the color and the cane detail. I like the color of the handles.

This console is beautiful. It looks very expensive but as the other reviewers stated it is hard to put together. I will say I thought it was worth the trouble once finally complete, I had a few hiccups like putting the bottom on upside down but once I sorted that out it really wasn’t bad. I do have a screwdriver that has an Allen wrench on the end which was a complete lifesaver. If you’re going to buy this make sure to get one of those, it’s worth it and makes it much more manageable especially towards the end when screwing on the legs in some hard to reach spaces. If you want this piece, just take your time assembling it and go for it! For the price tag and the end result, I have no regrets.

This piece is solid and compliments my newly remodeled mid-century modern living room. However, as many others posted, it's VERY difficult to put together. First of all, for almost every bolt, you have to reach up under, in the dark, to find a black bolt. Of course, since none of this unassembled stuff ever comes with SCREWS that you can use a SCREWDRIVER with, you are left to feel around 50 times with your free, skinny allen wrench to screw in a single bolt. My hands were so sore the next morning. Also, though you can't tell by the picture, the doors do not line up, no matter how I adjust the very complex hinges. The doors were so warped that the holes to attach them didn't line up, either. Good luck!
