Q: Will this protect food from bacteria

submitted by Hello - 7 years ago

  • A: We do not recommend Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray for use on food or surfaces that will have direct contact with food, since it is not a food-grade coating. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

    submitted byRust-OleumSupport - 5 years ago
    Brand expert

  • A: Yes, it would most likely kill bacteria on the surface of the food due to the ingredients that are forms of acetate and acetone..... BUT it would also get you very sick. #DO NOT CONSUME SPRAY PAINT

submitted byConcernedCitizen - 1 year ago

  • A: You can't eat spray paint. Its not for food.

submitted byUsualWeirdo - 6 years ago

  • A: Yes absolutely, and it will remove all the bacteria from your digestive system as well.

Q: Can this spray be used to restore yellowed car head lamps?

submitted by Gloss Clear spray - 7 years ago

  • A: Thank you for reaching out. Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Clear Spray is not recommended for use on car headlights. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

    submitted byRust-OleumSupport - 5 years ago
    Brand expert

  • A: No. You have to get rid of the yellow first, which requires wet sanding with 1500 or 2000 grit. Then buffing with plastic compound, but thruth be told any rubbing compound would work except the aggressive cutting type. Headlight restoration kits are available, probably on here but if not, Harbor Freight has a kit for cheap. I suppose you can spray this product for long term protection AFTERWARDS, like a clearcoat.

submitted byScreen name - 7 years ago

  • A: After clearing my headlights with the appropriate sandpaper, compounding and polishing materials on my dull and yellow headlamps I coated them with this product. After 18 months they turned yellow.

Q: Can I use it to paint cardboard? Specifically Tri fold?

submitted by Y - 2 years ago

  • A: Great question! Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint is not recommended for tri-fold cardboard. When the cardboard moves, the paint will chip and peel. Currently, we do not have a paint suitable for painting cardboard. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

Q: Can you use this spray on an outdoor wreath made of wood, cloth, and ribbons?

submitted by Minnie - 4 years ago

  • A: Happy to help, Minnie! While Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray can be used on exterior wood surfaces, we do not recommend it for use on fabric, ribbon, and other flexible surfaces. This coating cures to a hard finish, and it will start to crack and peel on flexible material as it bends and moves. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q: can I use this on my bathtub

submitted by lady l - 4 years ago

  • A: We appreciate your interest, however we do not recommend Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint for use in a bathtub or shower. The constant exposure to water and humidity will cause the coating to blister and peel. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

    submitted byRust-OleumSupport - 4 years ago

  • A: Recommend using Rustoleum Tub and Tile refinishing kits, or Krylon, Homax brands. Also, can be professionally refinished. It is smelly process though.

Q: Can I use this to repaint a wooden toilet seat?

submitted by Ronnie - 5 years ago

  • A: We appreciate your interest, Ronnie. While Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint can be used on wood surfaces, we do not recommend it for use on toilet seats. The product will not withstand that type of use and cleaning. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

  • A: Need to clean, sand, prime first. Then use an oil based enamel or high gloss latex to paint and coat. Or purchase brand new.

Q: can this be used to seal glitter on christmas ornaments?

submitted by galBelle - 5 years ago

  • A: Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Clear Spray can be used over glitter. We recommend applying in a test area first to ensure the spray is compatible with the adhesive used. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

    submitted byRust-OleumSupport - 5 years ago
    Brand expert

  • A: Recommend a clear coat to seal. Many brands make this product. Search for those under "clear coat for ornaments" on web for choices and needs.

Q: After spraying this on furniture, should you use a top coat? If so, what should you finish it with?

submitted by Michelle - 5 years ago

  • A: Great question, Michelle. While a top coat isn't absolutely necessary with the Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover 2X Spray, it can add to the durability and longevity of the finish. We recommend sticking with the same product line for the topcoat with our Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover 2X Clear Spray. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Q: Would this work for a pegboard that has not been primed?

submitted by AnninCA - 5 years ago

  • A: We like the way you think, Ann! Yes, Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray can be used on pegboard. Since the surface is bare, additional coats may be needed for full coverage. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

    submitted byRust-OleumSupport - 5 years ago
    Brand expert

  • A: Unpainted pegboard needs to be sealed first since porous. White pegboard needs to be primed since slick. Then can spray paint in light even coats.

The color matches the cap but this is definitely not matte like it states. It looks glossy

Thank you, Katie, for sharing your experience with Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint. To ensure the most accurate finish it is key to shake the can vigorously for at least 1 minute before applying, as well as throughout the application process. This will evenly distribute all flattening agents providing the desired matte finsih. White not opaque after 2 coats

The coverage of this white color was very disappointing. I did two coats and I can still see the grain of the wood through the white. I’ve bought this same paint in teal and two coats was plenty to be opaque so maybe this white is just a dud?
    1 reply from Rust-OleumSupport team - 4 months ago
Thank you for the feedback on Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Spray Paint. Even though this paint is considered a paint and primer in one, priming is recommended when painting bare wood or metal surfaces. A suitable primer would be Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Primer Spray. https://www.target.com/p/rust-oleum-12oz-2x-painter-s-touch-ultra-cover-gloss-spray-paint/-/A-90528129?preselect=75575323#lnk=sametab — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

    Oh no my orange paint!!

The orange paint only sprayed half of the can and then the rest would not come out of the can. I am requesting an exchange. However the other colors that I bought from this supplier and for this brand have worked perfect so I think this is just a fluke or just one bad can. I don’t think this a reflection on this brand or on target I think sometimes things just might get messed up in the manufacturing.

    Spray cap was broken
    1 reply from Rust-OleumSupport team - 8 months ago
Oh, no, Paige! The best technique to remove the cap from Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint is to squeeze both sides simultaneously (where the indents are) and then pull straight up. The cap should then come off the can without damaging the nozzle. Please have the can on hand and call our team at 800-481-4785, and we’ll do our best to make this right. — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

    Beyond Disappointed

I ordered 6 spray paints. All the same. I received 4 of what I ordered and 2 cans of whatever the employee decided to add. Not the same color or finish. I don’t know how they could just randomly decide to send 2 paints that are not even close to what I ordered.

Shiny and tacky - Evening Navy Ultra Matte

not Ultra Matte as advertised. More like a satin. Also ended up feeling kind of tacky/sticky though paint seems to have dried. Very disappointed that it really wasn't even close to being Matte. I purchased Evening Navy and Slate. Both were lighter and glossier than the caps indicated. Evening Navy was more of a slightly darker royal blue. I used them on a drawer that was old after spraying with a primer - adherance and coverage seems fine.

Thank you for the feedback on Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint. It is important to vigorously shake the can for at least 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle before pressing the nozzle. Shake often throughout the application to make sure that the pigments are thoroughly mixed to achieve the correct color. — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
