Q: What is this rug treated with? We have young children who both developed rashes and other issues after being around this rug. Is there fermeldyhide or any other chemicals used on the materials?

A: Hi - Thank you for reaching out with your question. Loloi products including Target pass all residential rug requirements. While Loloi/Target products do not receive extra pest, stain and / or fire resistance treatments, many of them are naturally resistant . Additionally, all Loloi/Target products meet or surpass California Prop 65 requirements, the most strenuous testing in the nation for harmful chemicals. This includes Formaldehyde. I wonder if it could be the children are reacting to the wool. Hope this helps. - Carmen

If you choose, you can use this rug on vinyl/laminate, the materials used in the rug are called out online, and our backing is made from mostly cotton and some other fibers. The backing is not made of vinyl/latex/rubber. Latex is only used to bind the backing to the rug and therefore is not exposed. We hope this helps! - Jerith

Dangerous for babies and kids: Toxic Formaldehyde Treatment Used on This Rug

We bought this rug because it had mostly natural materials (wool and cotton). We had no idea it was heavily treated with formaldehyde until it arrived and our 3 year old and 11 month old broke out in rashes and other life threatening symptoms. After examining the box, it has a warning label on it for formaldehyde. We didn't see this until after our 11 month old had been crawling on the rug for a few days. She had developed bright red welty rashes from head to toe, was weezing, coughing, trouble breathing, and vomiting. After we threw out the rug, cleansed the area and filtered for formaldehyde her symptoms cleared up. This item should be immediately investigated and recalled. Do not purchase if you have babies or small children. Our three year old also developed rashes and a cough from playing nearby the rug. I have reached out to Target about this (about a couple of weeks ago) but have not received a response. They do not have allergies to wool, cotton, or nylon as many of our household items are made of these materials.

So disappointing from Hearth and Hand. Sheds everywhere! I do not own a dog, but my house looks like I have a 200 pound sheepdog! Tassels are not as pictured and dirt and debris cling to them like the shedding clings to my clothes. I thought the shedding would get better after a month or so, so I didn’t return. Huge mistake. Over 6 months in and it’s just as bad as day one. Very disappointing Target.

If I could give this 0/5 stars I would. It looks absolutely nothing like the picture, which I can handle that. The worst part is, it came smelling like cat pee and literally has a blood stain on it . I do not recommend this whatsoever , do not waste your money. I am not sure if this issue is the manufacturer, or target but I am disgusted !

We put the rug in our living room and sit on it with our kids to play games, etc. It sheds like CRAZY…if we sit on it, our pants are covered in the white yarn and it creates dust bunnies too. It’s almost itchy to sit on. I think the vacuum will ruin the rug and it’ll fray - it’s already fraying and it’s only been about 2 weeks. It’s prettier in the picture online - in person the white yarn looks cheaper and fluffier. Not happy with it at all.

I loveeeee this rug! The color is nice as shown on the picture, fits really well with the rest of my decor.. Immediately brighten the living room. The best part is the quality of the rug, it is not too thin which requires no extra pad under. The pattern is beautiful even my corgi loves rubbing his back against it haha. I also noticed in the description that this is handmade, definitely appreciate the handcraft-ship here.
