My husband and I bought this right after moving in together, primarily to check the temperature in steaks. It works great most of the time, just don't ever get any part but the needle wet. Sometimes it will be on when you don't realize it and start to read the temperature of the room and when you first insert it into whatever it is you're cooking (we use it on steak, pork, chicken, and even to test the temp of frying oil) the numbers will often blink out, don't worry it's working, you just have to leave it in for a few seconds. I don't remember reading how high it will read but I once got it up to 500 degrees (fried wonton incident). If you really need one right away, I'd recomend this one, however if you can spare a few days and a bit of extra cash, I'd recomend reading other reviews and finding a digital one with a wire between the needle and the electrical part.

This meat thermometer is simple, compact, and it just works. I've had no issues using the product. My only complaint is the on/off switch could be a little more robust, it feels cheap. On that note, it's held up just fine over the last couple of years I've used it.

I bought this thermometer about a year and a half ago, and have nothing but positive feedback to offer. It provides an accurate and quick temperature reading, all you would expect from a thermometer. The only complaint I would have is that after a year and a half, the battery died, and it is quite difficult to replace. Contrary to other reviews on this site, it is in fact replaceable, but it requires prying the top off, and bending a piece of metal away to slip the battery out. If you misplace the "bonus" extra battery, as I did (can you blame me?), a new one costs [price]... It's probably easier to just buy a new thermometer, as I'm likely to do.

This thermometer was recommended to me by a Cayman Island chef who was a sous-chef to Wolfgang Puck back in the day. I have had other "instant" temp probs in the past, but the size, speed and accuracy of the TruTemp is just great. This is not a device for small cuts, but works great for roasts and cuts that allow a 1" insertion of the probe into the meat. I used this on a prime rib roast and never had better results.

Sent my husband to the store to pick up a meat thermometer and this is what he got me. Unimpressive and flimsy, it broke after the second use. Next time I'll pick one up myself.

Worked ok, though didn't compare to a higher quality thermometer to check accuracy. Battery is not replaceable -- when it dies you have to throw away the whole thermometer and buy a new one.

I bought one of these thermometers, tried it, and it insisted that my steak that had been on the grill for 25 minutes was only 58 degrees. Went back to Target and exchanged it, the replacement did the same thing. Don't trust what this thermometer tells you, it's WAY off!
