Q: exactly what type of bulb is needed for this lamp? A special one for a touch lamp?

A: You can only use an Incandescent Bulb. 40 Watt max E26 base B12 Shape. CFL or LED Bulb are not allowed on Touch-On Lamps. This will burn the lamp instantly. If the lamp stop working, it will only need a new Touch-On Sensor then your lamp will be brand new again.

It's a nice lamp, but it could have a better bottom. The felt disc that was on the bottom of the lamp barely covered it and was dented in on one side.

Easy to assemble, comes with a bulb. Dark brown color matching my furniture. Touch lamp makes it easier to turn on and off when I'm half asleep.

Really liked the lamp; especially the 3-way touch feature. But the color is more of a brown than espresso. Almost taupe.
