Not "instant" at all
This is a 40-second thermometer, not an instant thermometer. The problem is that probe is too thick and therefore takes a relatively long time to heat up. So, it takes quite a while before it gives you an accurate temperature reading. I know it is not possible to make a real-world thermometer that is truly "instant", but this one is not even close.

Not anywhere close to instant.
If instant means in a few minutes this is the thermometer for you. Its fine for checking internal temp but if you're frying plan on waiting over a hot fryer for a minute to get accurate temp.

Long lasting, good price
This thermometer worked well for a very long time,probably 10+ years. I’m replacing it with the same model. I broke it, cleaned too aggressively. I pulled the metal part off the end. It withstood water damage, the display showed damage but it kept working. The readings were accurate and fast, it’s easy to clean.

It worked really well for 6 months or so, then suddenly would not work at all. Battery replacement did not fix it. I’d recommend a more reliable brand at the price.

Wouldn't turn on, doesn't work at all
As soon as I took it out of the packaging it didn't work. It wouldn't turn on at all. Really annoying bc I bought this in my pickup bc I wanted to try making candy tonight, but guess I'll have to wait until I can get one from Amazon.

The light is handy
We’ve gone through several of these, not because they are not durable but because my husband leaves them in the sink and starts rinsing dishes and soaks the unit causing to get waterlogged and ultimately stop working. If you need a large read out, this is on the smaller side. We typically grill after the sun sets so the light is handy.
