Q: is this a paper canister?

submitted by tina - 5 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Tina. Our Quaker Old Fashioned Oats are packaged in a cardboard tube. We hope this information helps.

submitted byQuaker Customer Support - 5 years ago

  • A: Not entirely. There is a plastic rim at the top that must be cut out if you want to recycle the cardboard.

Q: This says "Does not contain any of the 8 major allergens". Does this mean they can be called "gluten free"? Just checking before I make GF desserts for friends.

submitted by jfeerst - 7 years ago
  • A: I'm not sure. I would either try Googling your question and/or check the Quaker website, there may be a phone number to call and ask them. Hope this helps.

submitted byRL - 7 years ago
  • A: Hi, Jfeerst. Quaker Old Fashioned Oats are not considered gluten free. We do offer gluten free oatmeal in 3 varieties: 18 oz. Quaker Quick 1-Minute Oats, and Quaker Instant Oatmeal in 10 count Original and 8 count Maple & Brown Sugar. Quaker gluten-free varieties are clearly labeled on packages and available in stores under the Quaker Select Starts line.

Q: Are these oats processed in a faciliity that uses equipment to process anything with tree nuts?

submitted by Mary - 5 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Mary. If any of the top eight allergens (Milk, Egg, Fish, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Shellfish, Soy, Wheat) are an ingredient or a component of the ingredient, the allergen will be listed in the Ingredients list or included in a "Contains" statement immediately after the Ingredients list. This is consistent with FDA labeling requirements. For products made on production lines where we produce other varieties that have different allergens not contained in the product, the line is thoroughly cleaned between productions. Due to the complexity of some of the equipment in some instances it may be difficult to clean some areas completely. Because we realize the seriousness of food allergens, in those instances, we warn consumers about the possibility of trace amounts of specific allergens on shared production lines when applicable, with a "may contain" advisory statement on the label. We recommend consumers look for these statements each time they purchase a product as formulas may change.

Q: Looking for rolled oats, is this brand rolled oats ?

submitted by Lee - 5 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Lee. The oats are cleaned and steamed to eliminate the undesirable enzymes present in raw oats, then 'toasted' to give them a roasted, nutty flavor. Some oats are cut into pieces to reduce cooking time and produce a more smooth and creamy texture when cooked. Oats are steamed just long enough to make them soft. Then they are passed between rollers. We hope this information helps.

Q: can you cook in microwave

submitted by Audrey - 7 years ago
  • A: Hi, Audrey. Old Fashioned Quaker Oats can be prepared in a microwave as follows: Combine water, oats and salt in medium microwaveable bowl. Microwave on HIGH for 2-1/2 to 3 minutes. Stir before serving.

My husband hates the changes to old fashion oats

1 out of 5 stars

I would leave minus stars if I could. My husband says the change is so dramatic he wondered if our microwave was broken. The oats are watery and will nit absorb moisture regardless of the cooking time. Texture and taste are both different than in years past. We have been eating the old fashioned oats for years so we can definitely tell they are different. After reading these reviews he knows it isn't the microwave, or him. He says he will not buy these again.

After making oatmeal for 50 year using Quaker Old Fashioned Oats, I must find a replacement product. The changes Quaker has made to this product make the product worthless. I'll watch for Quaker to make an announcement acknowledging this mistake and announcing a return to original processing - then maybe I'll come back.

Been eating every morning for the past 4 years and something changed. They are either thicker and or steamed less than before because my cooking method has not changed. They are chewy and do not absorb the water used in cooking and I have not changed the cooking method. Tried using less water and longer cooking time to no avail. Will have to look for a different brand.

Good, but microwave instructions are out of date

I like to have this topped with fruit. It's like having dessert for breakfast. I do wish you would modify your microwave cooking instructions. When using today's modern microwaves cooking on High for 3 minutes causes a boil over and a mess. Can you give instructions for microwaving with today's higher wattage microwaves which cook much faster.

I like this recipe, but I do make modifications. Substitute butter for oil (I frequently melt it in the microwave). I add an extra egg to make softer cookies. Then I increase the oatmeal by 3/4 cup (4 3/4 total).

To be honest this review has nothing to do with the quality or taste I still enjoy the oatmeal and the granola bars BUT I just bought a 30 pack or something of the granola bars with chocolate chips and they're so tiny it's ridiculous. Corporations have profit margin has been bigger than it's ever been in history they shouldn't be able to rip us off!!!

I really like oatmeal, but it is different than it used to be. I use Quaker old fashioned oats and what used to cook in the microwave for under 5 minutes and it turned out creamy, takes up to 10 minutes and is still crunchy. Why is that?

I’m 83 yrs old. Been eating Old Fashioned Quaker Oats all my life. For awhile I’ve been noticing this gooey substance as I’m cooking. Are you adding starch or something, it looks vet off putting. I’m eating a bowl as I’m writing this review, seems as all good things end at some time

We love this brand, however, if you don’t want a damaged item it’s better to go to the store yourself and pick a non damaged product. When I arrived home from picking up in store I noticed it was already opened. I was still going to keep it but I noticed on the lid it says not to use. Just be careful.

Bad Old Fashioned Oatmeal

What has happened to Quaker Old Fashioned oatmeal. Noticed a few months ago that the texture was thick, says to cook in 31/2 min, well that doesn’t work, had to cook for about 10 min and still wasn’t right, Al’s, the taste is bad. Well, I won’t be buying this product anymore. Threw away 2 large 42 oz boxes to the birds, hope they don’t get sick.
