Thank God I just bought a tool set from Target as well ,it was not as easy as I thought nor as hard, it did take me 5 thats right 5 hours in the sun to build, they need better and presise directions saw horse did help though. This is a great hoop everything about it great, the base is not too flimsy at all its absolutely fine, the quality is great, the packaging was very organized, it is not hard to put together at all, I am 15, took me about 3 hours, make sure all bolts and screws are snug to tight,when your done putting it together its so worth it, great looking hoop. People who complain about putting it together are just too lazy, it's a great hoop for the price. see less

As far as difficulty putting it up, my box had a DVD that goes hand in hand with the Instruction manual and gives a great visual of the steps. When I got it out of the box I was impressed with the quality of the hardware - it is a sturdy, well-designed system. The parts all fit perfectly. There are numerous parts - perhaps over dozen different sized bolts, and dozen different nuts, and a multitude of other pieces. However the instruction manual is clear, with a page of part numbers and life-size pictures of each item...so if you are careful and observant, you'll always get the right item. BTW-some bolts were hard to find - inside some plastic tube parts - I nearly thought we short of some parts. A few tips/ 1. Do not overtighten the bolts - they are big sturdy bolts and with enough pressure you can change the shape of the steel post. Just get them tight...they'll hold. 2. Fill the bass with water and two gallons of non-toxic anti-freeze - RV/Marine anti-freeze available at most auto parts stores. see less

It is very sturdy, but extremely difficult to put together with the universal bracket.The directions were not written clearly. Once the basketball backboard was put together and put up it looks great and works well. The directions should be clearer for mounting on a pole or wall, etc. see less

I bought this for 3 young boys in June 2009, and to date, Nov. 2009 it is still in great and new-like shape. We live in a 4 seasons area and it is outside weathering just fine. It is reasonable for a household on a budget, but NOT a "cheap quality" product. We also get up to 90 miles an hour winds; and as long as you fill the bottom with water and keep it filled up (which I believe water is heavier than sand, rock, etc.?) it rarely tips over. My 4 year old son got this as a Christmas present from his Aunt. Three months later during a mild storm the backboard completely broke off. The company would not replace the backboard because it was due to an "act of nature"... Not many other ways for an outside basketball hoop to be harmed, is there? My son is heartbroken! So FINALLY received this unit yesterday & with the help of a neighbor put it together. He worked construction 15 years and it took us 8 hours. The poles were the biggest challenge for sure, rubber mallet does not move these at all so had to use wood on both ends...lots of wood! My Huffy goal does not look like this one and I am sure they have changed the look in 15 years .We are moving soon and I was just looking at our 15 year old Huffy goal ,wondering what to do with it . My son and his friends enjoyed it for years and now my grandson plays on it . It is probably to big to take with us but for the price ,it is worth buying another for our new home . It still looks great and works great . We have only replaced the net a few times and I am sure whomever buys our house will enjoy the goal as much as we have .It can be moved around as easy as the first day we got it . I hope this newer version is as durable as the old one .Huffy makes a wonderful product . We never expected it to last this long . BUYER BEWARE. NO WHERE DOES IT SAY ON THE WEBSITE THAT THIS HOOP DOES NOT GO TO A FULL 10 FEET HIGH. I PURCHASED ONE FOR MY SON'S BIRTHDAY, HAD A GOOD REVIEW AND THOUGHT THE SHARK ON THE BACKBOARD LOOKED COOL. GOT IT TOGETHER AND IT ONLY GOES TO ABOUT 7 FEET HIGH. CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THERE IS NO EXTENSION POLE OR ANYTHING. IT IS FOR SITTING ON A POOL DECK. DIDN'T SEE THAT ANYWHERE IN THE DESCRIPTION. I purchased this product and was amazed at how difficult it is to put together. The instructions are very poorly organized and because they are written in 4 different languages all on the same page, it is very difficult to notice the alerts as they are mixed in with some of the instructions in another language. I am not a skilled craftsman like most people, but I normally do not have difficulty constructing things and following the directions. However, as a result of the confusing directions I assembled two pieces incorrectly that once assembled cannot be reassembled. As a result, I had to purchase these pieces from Spalding directly. They did not pay for them. So, I would have been better off purchasing a more expensive basketball system made by some other company like [...] or something. I am very disappointed. see less

We bought this item, found the fault, and returned it immediately....instead of receiving our money back we got a gift card...this is a huge amount of money for gift card....the manager said because we paid with paypal, we could not get the money back on our credit card!!!! This is not stated in their return policy!!!! very disappointed with customer service, will never purchase anything on target.com again!!!!! see less
