My second gripe is how it is packaged. It was shipped with damaged corners. I paid for shipping and now I have to drive to the store to get another one because I can not gift it the way it looks. There is NO protective packaging
on it. I could tell it was damaged before it was even shipped. If I were you, do NOT order it online. Get it in the store so you can make sure that you get a good one.
I love my first generation one but am very disappointed at the look of the second generation one.
I would assume this product is great. I actually purchased this item for a close friend's wedding. I went to the store and checked it out prior to ordering, and was very pleased with what I saw in the packaging. Monopoly is a trusted, valued, and cherished game that has always had a reputable reputation. Hasbro has done a great job standing the test of time with this game, with copious amounts of variation (Virginia Techopoly is one of my favorites), not to mention partnering with McDonald's ev
ery year. Pairing it with the success of the Hasbro brand, the game itself, and the interest and nostalgia that it sparks, I felt as if this game was the perfect gift for my friend; and she loved it! This was the first Vintage Book Game that I have gotten and I LOVE it!!! It fits perfectly on a book shelf and it's still the classic monopoly. There isn't a spot for the bank but it's not a biggie. The new design isn't perfectly "book-like" but it still gets the job done. I see no reason in giving it a one start rating just because they changed the look of the box.
I bought part of this set and was collecting the rest as my kids grow up and for Christmas presents, etc. Now the box is terrible... just a box, not book like and doesn't go with the ones I have already. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! I really want the whole set, but only if they have rounded book like spines. Please change them back and then contact me... I will buy the whole set as soon as you do - NOT UNTIL THEN!
I received the RISK library edition as a gift last year and loved it. The 'box' really looked like a book on the shelf. (very nice detail). I tried to collect them all one by one but then Target discontinued that style and changed the box shortly after the holidays. The new style is awful. It's just a painted box and looks terrible and cheap next to the old style. Not worth buying the rest of the collection.
This book game is perfect for our gameroom! It is the original board (not very colorful) game. An american classic. The only negative aspect of this game is the fact that there is not a spot in the box to set up "the bank". But other than that I have no complaints. I love how the game looks when we are not using it as well- goes great with adult decor and the story behind the inventor is a nice touch. I intend to collect all the other versions of the Vintage Games.
I've already owned a monopoly deluxe edition when I bought this but was looking for a smaller and less colorful box. This box is about half the size of my monopoly deluxe, it is well made and looks great on a book shelf. The vintage metal play pieces are very detailed and nice. The properties and chance cards are standard size, but in a vintage font (old type writer kind). Money is a little smaller than in other sets but it's understandable since the included plastic organizer is smaller. The b
oard itself feels very cheap. The fonts look distressed: letters are not crisp and colors are a little off.
