Dixie - (I Can Read Level 1) by Grace Gilman (Paperback)

About the Book

Book Synopsis

Emma needs to prepare for her class's production of The Wizard of Oz, so she can't play with her puppy, Dixie, after school.

But Dixie does not understand. All the puppy wants is to eat snacks and play games. Usually, everywhere Emma goes, Dixie goes, too.

Instead, Emma must study her papers and practice saying her lines. Dixie tries to sit quiet as can be without barking or grabbing. Yet waiting is hard for an excited puppy.

Before long, Dixie leaps through the room and knocks down stacks of books. She only wants her best friend to come out and play.

• Kids Books About Dogs: Emma lands the role of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and excitedly casts Dixie to play her stage dog, Toto.
• Beginning Readers: Short sentences and simple vocabulary support early reading confidence as Emma rehearses her lines for the school production.
• School Drama: Pre-show panic sets in when Emma worries about forgetting her dialogue and discovers that one of her ruby slippers has vanished.
• Also by This Author: Dixie Wins the Race, Dixie and the Class Treat and Dixie Loves School Pet Day.
