Description

About the Book

This updated edition of a contemporary classic identifies common mistakes of interpretation to teach sound grammatical, lexical, cultural, theological, and historical Bible study practices.

Book Synopsis

This updated edition of a contemporary classic teaches sound grammatical, lexical, cultural, and theological Bible study practices, offering expert guidance for those seeking to interpret Scripture more accurately.

D. A. Carson and Andrew David Naselli teach interpreters to think critically and to develop sound reasons for the choices they make. To do this, interpreters must reject unsound reasons; so the authors identify common mistakes many Bible interpreters make and how to avoid them.

The third edition is significantly expanded, examines some new fallacies, and is accessible for beginning students of theology. It is also a helpful resource for any student of biblical languages.

"A must for teachers, pastors, and serious Bible students."--Thomas R. Schreiner, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

From the Back Cover

An Updated Edition of a Contemporary Classic

This third edition identifies common mistakes of interpretation to teach sound grammatical, lexical, cultural, theological, and historical Bible study practices.

"This new edition updates and expands Carson's original book. Andy Naselli has done a good job revising it. I recommend this book to students, teachers, pastors, and anyone seriously interested in the interpretation of the New Testament."
--G. K. Beale, Reformed Theological Seminary, Dallas, Texas

"I rejoice for this fruitful, time-tested work to have fresh life, and I pray that this new version might help a new generation. Hands down, this is one of the most influential books from my seminary years. I have reread and referenced it often and have encouraged dozens of others to do so as well."
--David Mathis, senior teacher and executive editor, desiringGod.org; pastor, Cities Church, Saint Paul, Minnesota; Bethlehem College and Seminary

"This third edition updates the book for a new generation. It is accessible, clear, instructive, and thus at the end of day (though sometimes painful) edifying."
--Thomas R. Schreiner, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

"Exegetical Fallacies has served a generation of pastors and students and is now available in a thoroughly updated third edition. Carson and Naselli model sober judgment and serious care for the inerrant Scriptures as they explain and illustrate various interpretive fallacies. Highly recommended!"
--Brian J. Tabb, Bethlehem College and Seminary; general editor, Themelios

"The first edition of Carson's Exegetical Fallacies became an instant classic. Thirty years later, Carson and Naselli have improved this classic. This third edition is needed now more than ever. It needs to be close at hand for all those entrusted with a ministry of the Word."
--Daniel B. Wallace, founder and executive director, Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts
