Description

About the Book

Create, simulate, and visualize digital representations of the real world with geospatial technologies and video game engines.

Book Synopsis

Create, simulate, and visualize the real world with geospatial technology and video game engines using digital twins.

Digital twins provide a dynamic representation of the real world that helps people make better outcome-driven decisions. By combining geographic information systems (GIS) with 3D data, real-time data, and game-engine technology, you create geospatial digital twins to help make real-world decisions.

Geospatial Digital Twins: Connecting the Real World Through ArcGIS(R) and Game Engines guides you through the concepts, technology, and workflows needed to combine geospatial technology with video game engines to create digital twin simulations of the real world. Through hands-on exercises and realistic scenarios, readers will learn how to icreate immersive experiences for analysis and simulation.

For game designers and developers, geospatial digital twins offer an opportunity to take the tools and techniques used to build virtual worlds and apply them to the real world--connecting 3D environments, game engines, simulation, and interactive experiences with real places and real-world data. For GIS professionals, the book provides a pathway for extending geospatial data and analysis into immersive, interactive, and dynamic digital environments.

You'll learn a wide range of technical skill sets and broader understanding on how to combine ArcGIS, Unity(R), and Unreal Engine(R) to create engaging geospatial digital twin applications. Topics include:

  • Foundations of geospatial digital twins
  • Working with 3D GIS data and scene-based environments
  • Data pipelines, coding and programming, and visualization techniques
  • Building data-driven digital twins in ArcGIS Pro
  • Procedural city generation with ArcGIS CityEngine
  • Creating complete digital twin workflows from data to decision support

Whether you're a GIS professional, game designer or developer, or a student, Geospatial Digital Twins provides a practical introduction to one of the most exciting areas in modern geospatial technology.
