I mixed it with pineapple juice, which mellowed it out and made it more enjoyable, but the flavor still didn’t have much depth or complexity. It works for cocktails if you want something with a strong kick, but it’s not a standout for me.

It’s very versatile as I can drink it plan or add a bit of chocolate flavor to my mix. The packaging is really nice to show the nice brown color. It is Mount Gay's standard, entry-level offering I would say. It adds a standard "rummyness" to drinks without being overpowering. It has lots of vanilla, banana, caramel, and other tropical, it as having a "very bourbon-like" vanilla and toffee aroma. Like I said though it is not complex enough to be enjoyed neat, especially when compared to more robust, premium options like Mount Gay's XO or Black Barrel rums. It’s honestly kind of “boring” to sip on. If you find the Black Barrel expression to be a bit too spicy, while the Heritage Blend is much milder. The Black Barrel is aged longer, which ends up giving it a more complex flavor than this one.

It isn’t over powering but quite balanced and would be good for tiki drinks and cocktails. As a sipper it does have a burn but that is to be expected given the low price point.
