Both options exist. Some collectibles are ready-to-display scaled replicas that include a display base and interchangeable parts. Others are supplied as model kits that require assembly and leave painting or finishing to the buyer.

Some model kits are supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue and paints are often not included. Kit contents commonly include plastic parts, crew figures or accessories, shells, and decal sheets for finishing and display.
