Most pop-up and screen tents use fiberglass poles or fiberglass rods for the frame. Some models — particularly certain camping cot combos — may list metal or FRP components for parts of the frame.

Ratings vary by model. Some smaller tents list body waterproof ratings like 450 mm or 1000 mm, while larger canopies and screen shelters commonly show PU ratings around 2000 mm (2000 mm water resistance).

Setup times range widely. Many models are instant or 'pop-up' (about 1 minute), some take 1–2 minutes, and other designs may require 10–15 minutes depending on complexity.

Pop-up tents come in various shapes — rectangle, A-frame, pyramid, dome and square — with footprints ranging from small single-person sizes up to larger canopies (roughly 10 × 10 ft or about 11.5 × 11.5 ft for screen houses).

Capacities vary: small shelters are designed for 1–2 people, mid-size models for about 3–4 people, and larger canopies or screen houses may accommodate roughly 6–8 people.

Canopies and ceilings commonly use 150D Oxford or various polyester fabrics. Floor options include polyester floors, no floor, or a sewn-in ground sheet (as seen on some beach shelters).

Many pop-up shelters use full-panel mesh sidewalls, mesh windows and roll-up mesh doors to maximize airflow while keeping insects out.

Common stability features include fiberglass poles or rods combined with ground stakes and guy lines/wind ropes. Some models also include metal stakes or sand/weight covers for extra security.

Typical bundles may include an inflatable mattress and pump, pillows or sleeping bags, a carrying or roller bag, ground stakes and wind ropes, plus a user guide.
