Many visors advertise UPF 50+, with some fabrics blocking about 98% of UVA/UVB rays. In addition to UPF-rated fabrics, wider brims increase physical coverage for the face, ears, neck and scalp.

Visors often use moisture-wicking materials (for example, 100% polyester dri-fit) and include a moisture-wicking sweatband. Some feature quick-dry or water-resistant polyester finishes to help manage sweat during activity.

Many visors are designed to be packable: some fold flat and pop back into shape after packing, while certain straw or paper-straw styles are roll-up designs that can be rolled for luggage or a tote.

Many visors include an open-top or ponytail opening, decorative or functional back details, and adjustable closures to accommodate high ponytails, messy buns and braids while keeping the visor secure.
