Description

Book Synopsis

A richly illustrated exploration of the work of renowned German architects J. Mayer H.

Addressed presents the ongoing art, architecture, and research of J. Mayer H., an international award-winning architectural practice founded by Jürgen Mayer H. in 1996 and joined by partners Andre Santer and Hans Schneider in 2014. This comprehensive volume documents and explores the multifaceted nature of the Berlin-based firm's designs, including recently completed projects, ranging from residential and infrastructure works to memorials and urban furniture. With an emphasis on technology--from the computer to construction--and its relationship to nature and the human body, J. Mayer H. designs in a pattern language that challenges conventional methods of scale and scope in architectural practice and presents an imaginative vision of its capacity to create novel spaces.

Notable projects examined in the book include the border crossing in Sarpi, Georgia; a mixed-use development along the Spree River in Berlin; the RKM 740 Tower and the FOM University building in Düsseldorf; the IGZ Headquarters in Falkenberg, Germany; and the recent addition of an immersive lighting installation in the firm's world-renowned Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain.

Throughout the book are images of Jürgen Mayer H.'s hand-cut collages and personal snapshots that double as field research and inform the graphic sensibility of the built and proposed projects. The book features an introduction by architect Monica Ponce de Leon and essays by contemporary design curators, critics, and scholars, highlighting J. Mayer H.'s impact on architecture and design.
