"Get ready to laugh at your neuroses--and feel seen, too" (Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author) in this "deeply felt and surprisingly funny book" (Roz Chast, #1 New York Times bestselling author), by award-winning popular cartoonist, writer, and illustrator, Gemma Correll, chronicling her lifelong experience with anxiety and depression.
"Extraordinary." --Elizabeth Gilbert

WELCOME TO ANXIETYLAND--"Gemma Correll perfectly captures the hunted animal feeling of being a depressed, anxious babe in a way that is so vulnerable and funny and good" (Samantha Irby, New York Times bestselling author).
In 2018, Gemma Correll had a panic attack that lasted for weeks on end. Unable to do much more than walk aimlessly through the streets of Berkeley, Correll admitted herself to the hospital to reckon with The Bad Feeling that had been her companion since she was a child.
With her ingenious and charming illustrations "bursting with personality...peppered with witty asides" (Publishers Weekly), Correll leads readers through the amusement park in her own mind--featuring severe anxiety, depression, agoraphobia, and dissociation--a frightening and darkly funny world that "feels like a place apart from 'real' life."
A hilarious thrill ride exploring the mysteries of the mind-body connection, Gemma Correll's graphic memoir is shot through with the absurd knowledge that there is no linear way through Anxietyland, nor any cure-alls--but there are ways to feel better if you keep trying to move forward.

Review Quotes

"Bursting with personality . . . peppered with witty asides . . . it's one of the funniest and warmest mental health memoirs to come along in a while." --Publishers Weekly

"In Anxietyland, Gemma Correll's gorgeous memoir about her life-long experiences with anxiety, readers get a front-row seat to her hero's journey. Correll writes honestly and generously about her experiences--what worked and what didn't--and her book is the perfect companion for anyone suffering from anxiety and other mood disorders. This book is the perfect blend of self-disclosure, somatic descriptions, real-talk about gnarly conditions, compassion, and most of all, hope. Everyone in my life needs this tender, heart-filled book." --Christie Tate, New York Times bestselling author of Group

"Gemma overcomes the most frustrating part of anxiety and depression, the inability to express it in words! It made me feel good because it's funny, of course, but more importantly I felt less alone from page one, nay from the cover. It's as valuable as months of talk therapy. I give it my highest recommendation which is my highest recommendation." --Gary Gulman, author of Misfit

"I have a vacation home in Anxietyland, and Gemma Correll perfectly captures the hunted animal feeling of being a depressed, anxious babe in a way that is so vulnerable and funny and good; this book is honest, and doesn't feel like corny self-help, and is relatable in a way that makes you feel seen, not like a freak." --Samantha Irby, New York Times bestselling author of Quietly Hostile and We Are Never Meeting in Real Life

"Gemma's hilarious drawing style provides laughs and relief on some tough topics! Get Gemma's work in your life as a mood stabilizer!" --Maria Bamford, New York Times bestselling author of Sure, I'll Join Your Cult

"In Anxietyland, Gemma Cornell takes us on a roller coaster ride through a life accompanied by two faithful and relentless companions: anxiety and depression. While you are strapped into your seat and jolted forward through the narrative, as you listen to Gemma guide you through her story with disarming honesty, deep emotion, and a sense of humor, you can identify with what it feels like to be trapped in your own body. A brave and relatable narrative that allows readers gain deeper insight into their own emotional rollercoasters, and into what it means to live with mental illness." --Nora Krug, author of BELONGING, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award

"I laughed, I teared up, I teared up from laughing, and I thought, other people have these thoughts, too?! Correll captures the essence of anxiety in a sharp, relatable, and warm way. She illustrates just how sneaky and consuming anxiety can be (in both the mind and the body), and how the true practice isn't trying to make the anxiety disappear, but to create a relationship with it--and all the discomfort and uncertainty that it brings. A wise, comforting read!" --Meg Josephson, New York Times bestselling author of ARE YOU MAD AT ME?

"A poignant memoir about the struggle of living with anxiety. Heartbreaking and perfectly funny at the same time, ANXIETYLAND showcases Gemma Correll's tremendous gifts as an artist and the fortitude that has carried her through anxietyland and beyond." --Felicia Day, New York Times bestselling author of YOU'RE NEVER WEIRD ON THE INTERNET (ALMOST)

"Gemma Correll's Anxietyland is a deeply felt and surprisingly funny book about what it's like to live with the feeling that disaster not just could, but probably will happen at any second. Inhabitants of Anxietyland will relate, and so will everyone else. A great book!" --Roz Chast, #1 New York Times bestselling author of CAN'T WE TALK ABOUT SOMETHING MORE PLEASANT?

"Equal parts hysterical, heartbreaking and hopeful. A beautifully illustrated example of the power of sharing authentic stories of mental health." --Jenny Lawson, #1 New York Times bestselling author of FURIOUSLY HAPPY
