Description

This blend explores the harmonious combination of 3 distinct liquid profiles for one memorable whiskey. It begins with Kentucky Rye, providing a firm base of spicy rye, rich oak, dried fruit and subtle molasses undertones to build on. Canadian Rye from our award-winning Alberta Distillery is skillfully layered in. This unique rye provides depth to the notes of dried fruit and a more viscous mouth feel than a traditional rye. It's then finished with a touch of California Port blended in directly to add complementary juicy, ripe fruit without muddying the existing wood notes. The end result is a whiskey full in flavor and still delicately nuanced. Basil Hayden Dark Rye is always perfect sipped on the rocks as well as in a Boulevardier.

I love this Rye!

This is my go to Rye Whiskey. The richness and depth of flavors simply put this unique Whiskey in a class by itself. Straight or mixed it will please your taste buds.

Tastes like maraschino cherries and is too sweet

I love rye whiskey but this is not what I expected. It tastes like watered down whiskey with port and sugar.

My favorite Rye

There is almost a cola taste to this Rye. I drink it on the rocks or in a Manhattan, either way, smooth and delicious.

Tried it on the recommendation of a bartender

I usually drink Bourbon and the wheated type when I can get it. Bartender recommended this Basil Hayden Dark Rye as one that she prefers. I bought a bottle and am pleasantly surprised with the smoothness, taste and aftertaste. It will be part of my drink choices in the future. A very good drink on the rocks.

Really enjoying the Dark Rye

I grew up in Ireland and have enjoyed Irish Whiskey for years. Last year I spent a few days on the Bourbon Trail and decided to give it a try. I tasted BH's Dark Rye and loved it. I took a bottle back to Ireland on my last trip and shared it with friends who also loved it.

Sooo Smoooooth

I was skeptical at first but tried a bottle of the Dark Rye and wow, so smooth, so easy drinking, this stuff could be dangerous. I love Templeton Rye 8 yr and 6 yr, this Rye is about as good, not as harsh for sure.

Amazing

Was never into the dark liquors and went to a volleyball tournament. Our hotel had a rye bar and this was suggested. Turned my flavor profile real quick and now this is my favorite and go to!

An Old Fashioned but not an Old Fashioned

I have tried the whole Basil Hayden line and this is by far my favorite. I love it on the rocks. It is sweet. It is smooth. So good. It is like an Old Fashioned but it is not and Old Fashioned. Sip and enjoy. You are welcome in advance. Cheers.

Smooth flavor, horrendous headache

Tasted smooth and the overall taste was mild. It was easy to drink. On my second glass a headache set in; felt like ice picks stabbing my ears, a vice on my forehead and a sledgehammer had hit the back of my neck.

Nothing else like it. Period

No whiskey (rye or otherwise) tastes like this. It's in a category of its own. A long time bourbon drinker, I'm new to the rye game. This tops them all at any price point. So glad my buddy insisted I try it. My favorite. Period.

I prefer all my quality liquor whether it rye ,scotch ,Tequela or bourbon on the rocks to help release it's flavour much more..Having said that ,I do love a fine cocktail now and then.

I was amazed!

Talking with a young Bartender about touring the Bourbon Trail around Bardstown Kentucky, she he offered a shot of her favorite Rye. Not a Rye drinker but had to get a bottle for home. So smooth and enjoyable, my thoughts have changed! A definite go to in the evening………

Tried it. Aliens do exist. Loved it!

Who knew they made a bourbon with such complexity as basil Hayden dark rye. You definitely get the the kick with a sweet berry flavor to top it off. I love mine on the rocks.

A nice twist on an old favorite.

This has quickly become one of my favorites to enjoy in front of the fireplace on a chilly evening. The sweetness of the Port brings out a warm, luxurious follow that wafts over me with contentment. .
