A little stitcher's folklore: Prince Albert popularised the Christmas tree in Britain after an 1848 picture of the royal family around one was printed in the papers. Why this kit: Hannah Dale's loose, watercolour-style animals translate beautifully into stitch, and the printed speckle on the Aida gives the finished piece its signature Wrendale feel. Kit includes: 16-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, metallic thread, sparkle threads, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, a few fractional stitches, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included. Stitch the tree and animals in cross stitch from the centre, add fractionals where shown, then the outlines in back stitch and the French knots. Finished size: 38×29 cm (15×11.4 in). A large Christmas centrepiece to hang each year.
