Description

NoLifeTilMetal Records is proud to announce the release of the 19 song anthology CD from Damaged Faith. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Damaged Faith's original lineup was Sammy Whitmill on vocals, George Shepherd on guitar, Joey Gates on bass, and Jack Stevens on drums. The band played the club circuit in the Dallas, Fort Worth, and Louisiana areas in the 1990s building up a loyal, cult fan base. In 1991, Troy Thibodeaux replaced Sam Whitmill on vocals and the band released a four-song demo called Hate Society. Their sound was an amalgam of American metal, thrash, power metal, and groove metal. The opening song on this first demo, "Give Them Death," welded together an opening classical intro with a chugging metallic onslaught, powerhouse vocals, and some melodic guitar leads that showed the band were well prepared to compete in the metal arena. They drew heavily on their metal and thrash musical inspirations from the 1980s, such as Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Slayer, as well as hard rock and classic bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and King's X, yet branded themselves with their own unique sound that distilled all the best elements from their influences. In 1992, a two-song demo titled simply Demo '92 was released. The opening track, "Pimps of Poverty," showed the band in the pocket of the groove with a funky bass line intro that is soon accented with some thrashy riffs and vocals that delve into the rap style of lyric delivery. The song probes the question, "How can poverty still exist? Millions and millions we throw at it," showing the band exploring societal themes head on and deviating from the standard dungeons and dragons motifs of a lot of metal bands. Marc Brattin replaced Jack Stevens on drums in 1993 and in the same year, the band released their first full length self-titled album. Featuring twelve songs, it opens with the song "Raging Menace," where the band turn the amps up full blast and show a bite in their delivery that gives witness to the honing of their craft from cutting their teeth on the live concert scene. The song takes on the topic of America's taxation genocide showing the band delving into current political issues. They also tackle other sociological issues like guns ("Have Gun, Will Shoot"), racism ("Hate Society"), intentional fraud ("Victims of Subreption"), and bigotry ("Justice"). These messages are supercharged with the band's full metal assault. Almost as a needed respite to all the weighty subject matter the album has addressed, the album closes with an instrumental outro called "Shadow World." In this compilation of the music of Damaged Faith, you will find a band that should have caught fire nationally had they been given major label support and were able to tour more of the United States. But this compendium of musical flavors serves as a nice reminder that Damaged Faith had something to say, and they said it loudly. The CD includes am 8-page booklet with band history, lyrics and tons of photos and memorabilia.
