Hello Paul, We're glad you're happy with the Delta faucet. We apologize for the difficulty with the temperature. The description you are providing is the design of the valve cartridge for your model. There is a linear relationship between handle movement and temperature output. Everything is compressed because the handle will be moving across a small arc of travel. The lower the volume of water, the greater the change in temperature you'll see when moving the handle by a certain amount. We recommend to dial in your preferred temperature output while the faucet is running at full flow (as that’s when the handle has the widest arc of travel and, therefore, a less compressed temperature to handle movement ratio). Once the temperature is dialed in, you can pull the handle straight down towards the “off” position to lower the flow (if desired) and maintain the dialed-in temperature that you are looking for.
