Pick something that better celebrates Black features
My daughter (Caucasian) received this doll as a gift. She took it to school for show and tell day, and her teacher (African American) casually mentioned (very kindly) after school that this doll hurt her feelings because it looks nothing like Tiana, and she feels the lack of depth in the details and unrealistic (almost angry looking?) facial features make her look horrible. I’d actually thought to myself that morning before school, “why did they make Tiana look like that?” and her teacher’s comments was confirmation that I was right my thinking. She also said multiple other teachers (all AA) agreed with her thoughts as well. Her teachers are INCREDIBLE and love my baby like their own, so I listen to them when they speak. I will be replacing our Tiana with another option that better celebrates and accentuates the beautiful features of Black women, because it is important for my daughter to see them as the strong, powerful, incredible women that they are. (Also the irony of me posting this on Target’s site with all their recent DEI issues is not lost on me. But that won’t stop me from sharing.)

Disappointing
The doll head is cute, and has the potential to be fun, but unfortunately, she has so much hair and the base is so light, that it keeps tipping over. It is nearly imposible for a young child to hold the doll upright with one hand and comb her hair with the other! My biggest issue with this is that Disney had to have known about this flaw, and didn't change the design. Why? I'd bet money that Barbie's styling head isn't tipping over. Why was this design deemed good enough?
