About the Book
"First, there was nothing. Then, humanity was born, and an endless cycle of violence began. From the depths of the ocean, a mighty demigoddess is called forth to rein in humankind s destructive impulses, and teach a language of peace and harmony. Civilization quickly takes root, a great city rising from the desert. But the balance between chaos and order is a fragile one, and there are higher powers at work in this strange new world"--Publisher description.Book Synopsis
"One of the best books of the year." --Booklist, starred review
"Jesse Lonergan's Drome is the front-runner for 2025 book of the year. A true must read." --The Beat"Brilliant; thoughtful; inspiring but impossible to imitate. A complete original." --Mike Mignola Jesse Lonergan rewrites the rules of graphic novels with Drome, a visually mind-blowing epic about war, love, and death in a fledgling world. First, there was nothing. Then, humanity was born, and an endless cycle of violence began. From the depths of the ocean, a mighty demigoddess is called forth to rein in humankind's destructive impulses, and teach a language of peace and harmony. Civilization quickly takes root, a great city rising from the desert. But the balance between chaos and order is a fragile one, and there are higher powers at work in this strange new world. Creator Jesse Lonergan pushes the boundaries of the comics medium in this visually spectacular epic. In turns pulse-pounding and heart-wrenching, Drome is a creation myth for the modern age.
Review Quotes
A New York Public Library Best Book of the Year
"Lonergan has forever changed the [graphic novel] format. This ingenious, original comic is a true standout and is surely one of the best books of the year." --Booklist, starred review "Jesse Lonergan's Drome is the front-runner for 2025 book of the year. A true must read." --The Beat"A fantastical world is run through the wringer by a capricious deity in this gorgeous and bloody graphic adventure. This will captivate readers of ancient mythology and Jack Kirby alike." --Publishers Weekly
"[Jesse Lonergan is] a genuine innovator whose comics read unlike anyone else. Drome is his most ambitious work yet. Lonergan [...] pulls from a century of sequential storytelling transformation to chart a powerful path for the future." --The AV Club "Jesse Lonergan is entirely his own creature. With every new book, he shows us a world of comic book storytelling beyond anything we have ever seen before. A complete original, which is all too rare, and when somebody like this appears every decade or so, we should celebrate." --Mike Mignola "Jesse Lonergan is a visionary, generational talent, doing new things with comics across every panel, page, and spread. The jaw-dropping Drome is smart, exciting, visceral, and thunderously entertaining." --New York Times-bestselling creator Matt Fraction (Hawkeye, Sex Criminals) "The best thing I've seen in comics in years; Lonergan's use of panels for storytelling is next level--beyond what anyone else has done." --Matt Kindt, New York Times-bestselling coauthor of BRZRKR and creator of MIND MGMT
