Book Synopsis

An escaped house cat encounters twelve common birds in the backyard but captures only feathers for lunch. Includes bird guide. "Destined to become an uncontested favorite with many children and adults."--The Horn Book

  • A Gentle Outdoor Adventure: Follow a sneaky house cat on his big day out as he stalks through the garden--but don't worry, the birds are too clever for him!
  • Read-Aloud Rhythm & Rhyme: Simple, repetitive rhymes and a jingle-jangle bell make this a fun and interactive story for toddlers and preschoolers.
  • A First Field Guide: The story is followed by a beautiful guide identifying all twelve birds, from the Blue Jay to the Ruby-throated Hummingbird.
  • Life-Size Illustrations: Lois Ehlert's signature collage art portrays each bird at its actual size, perfect for helping little ones understand the natural world.
