This thing tracks every single thing you possibly

Absolutely love my grandma edge mountain bike computer. I can’t believe I’ve written all these years without one. What a difference it’s nice to have all this information after I’m done riding.

Nice computer, but tricky to read small text

Very happy with the edge MTB. Coming from the 1030 I struggle to read the text on screen. It would be really nice to have a text/font size adjustment, especially in brighter light. I also seem to be constantly, inadvertently pressing buttons when putting it on or taking it off the mount as they seem to be in the exact spots needed for proper leverage to lock/unlock on/from the mount, but I should get used to it in time.

Edge MTB so far so good

So far, so good. Haven't really gotten into all the features yet. Still need to figure out what I want to access and track on this one. Kind of excited to see the air time feature.

    MTB computer and more

I ride trails, road and whatever is fun. This is a great computer to use for everything. Works really well in off the grid spots on the trail and seems to work just as well for me on the road.

    A New Level of Accuracy

I live in the Midwest where there are no mountains. "Mountain biking" here is more of a series of ups and downs. However, I wanted the accuracy of the 5 Hz recording. I put the Garmin MTB in Enduro mode and set it to downhill and just leave it. I climb and go downhill, all being captured in 5 Hz accuracy. It would be nice if the Mountain Biking setting would just record in 5 Hz all the time, but I realize Garmin is trying to give you maximum battery life.

    Small Screen

I have used the EDGE MTB a few times coming from an Edge 530 and find the screen a little small. I also find the trail forks to pop up when I am on trail with no forks and am forced to get out of the screen so I can see my stats. I am sure I can turn this feature off but want to use it when I am on an unknown trail.

    A precision upgrade

I lost my Garmin 830 (set it on the bumper and drove off) so I needed a replacement. The edge MTB is perfect for my riding level and usage. The precision is so much better than my 830 was.

I needed a robust Garmin for road cycling

I chose this product over the new Edge 550 because I wanted a cycling computer with a durable screen I could trust to withstand daily use. I'm a road cyclist, and with that said, the Edge MTB is a great choice if you ride on the road or enjoy gravel and don't need all the metrics of the new 550. I'm happy with this product and hope to get several great years out of it.

    Buyers remorse

Wish I could return this. I bought it in October with Expervoice, and it's VERY small, almost unusably small for doing intervals, or reading a map. The battery goes down very fast with power, radar/light, and map going all at the same time. The removable tabs on the back on the biggest highlight. Why havn't all GPS been doing that for the last 20 years. Don't waste your money on this one. Double check the measurements. You might want to save up and get one of the bigger solar models.

    High quality Garmin product!

Nice GPS unit with built in protection. I loved my Edge 530 but broke the screen when I dropped it. I think this Edge MTB unit is a nice step up.

    MTB specific

Might need to be size of 530 but not complaining. I wear glasses except for riding, prescription, the screen is very clear. I can read everything well. I don't like it does not have wifi. Not a deal breaker at all but one less star. So the size of 530 and wifi would make it a 5 star for me. Garmin stepped up with the settings and using the iPhone. I have owned the Edge since the original early 2000s. I just upgraded to MTB and 540. I am super happy overall. the trail mapping is wonderful as well.

    Complicated

I was excited when this mountain bike specific unit came available. I did a quick review (not thorough enough) and ordered it. It is much smaller than I expected. It comes with a minimal manual with a couple of pages, that does not tell you much, other than where the on/off button and a few other buttons are located, with no additional information. I googled the unit to find out how to operate it. There I found more about it and how to use the features. However, the owner's manual gives you no indication of how to locate this information. I would stay with any of the other Edge models over this model. I regret ordering it.

Rugged unit but half baked MTB features

No complaints about the tough, IP7 unit itself other than the buttons are weirdly, very hard to press. Luckily, the idea behind this device is just to set it and go? I love the screen and glass, it is bright and clear -- and battery life is acceptable if you generally plug it in when off the bike or completely power it down. It syncs up easily with my iPhone and also to my eMTB's LEV, pedal and speed sensors. It's fairly stable and hasn't rebooted/crashed since I initially updated. Here's some of the downsides/disappointments so far.. Most the MTB only features are half baked and don't exactly match the marketing. For example, 5hz downhill GPS recording mode is only available in a couple profiles and is not automatic. Timing Gates seem like a half baked feature: * There is pretty limited documentation and I didn't find setting of the gates very intuitive (which must be done on device), especially my first time! * You can only run one set of gates per activity * You can only compare against times in the SAME activity, you cannot compare times from any other activity or day. Even after the fact in Garmin Connect. * Gate series are not automatically detected and must do a bunch of button pressing and menu navigating to start. Apparently the single use case for the timing gates feature is lapping the same trail, in the same day, at least 3 times. (1st lap to setup gates, 2nd lap to set initial time, 3rd lap finally gets to compare). Map updates are DIY if you are using MacOS. There's no official supported method. Remember this device has no Wifi and updates must be done via USB. The new tube mount didn't fit on my eMTB, unfortunately. A longer strap would be nice. Lastly, e-Mountain and the new e-Enduro profiles are excluded from the segment or comparison features, even if you just want to race your own times. All in all -- I wish I waited on this device. And why are the buttons so hard to press?

    Disappointed

I bought this Edge about two months ago, and it is actually my fourth Edge device from Garmin. I purchased this model without thoroughly researching its features and assumed it would have the same advanced functionality as my previous Edges. Unfortunately, I’ve been disappointed for two reasons: No Touchscreen – This was my oversight, but I was surprised to find that this model does not have a touchscreen and must be controlled with small side buttons. It makes operation less convenient during rides. Frequent Reboots – More importantly, the device sometimes goes dark and reboots during my rides. This is very frustrating, especially when I’m on busy roads. During the reboot, I completely lose my radar connection and have to stop and wait for the device to restart, which feels unsafe. I’m not sure whether this is a hardware or software issue, but it needs to be addressed. Overall, I have always loved Garmin products and consider them well-designed and reliable. However, this particular model did not meet my expectations, and I regret this purchase.

    Edge MTB - Terrible

I bought this for the durability, but the functionality of the Edge MTB unit is terrible. I downloaded a file for a route I was suppose to take and it constantly put me off course. It kept getting an error and constantly told me to make a U Turn even though I was clearly on the route. Would not recommend.

    Not For Me

Good concept but fell short for me. It is extremely small. Very hard to see especially if you have diabetic retinopathy and had eye surgeries. The buttons were extremely small and very difficult to use when riding. Navigation was useless and any warning was so small and lasted about a second so I could not read it. I could not get it to work with my Dexcom G7 even though I downloaded the CGM app and contacted the developer. Bought an SWMotech phone case and mount and another mount for my BMW GS motorcycle. I do use the Garmin speed and cadence ll sensors on my bicycle and use Samsung Health and either Trek Ride Club or Super Cycle depending on the occasion. And my Dexcom and Omnipod send me any low glucose alerts without a glitch.
