About the Author

Wil Huygen (1922-2009) was a Dutch author and physician best known for his internationally bestselling books about gnomes, created in collaboration with illustrator Rien Poortvliet. His background in medicine informed the distinctive tone of Gnomes, which presents the hidden lives of these mythical creatures with observational detail and humor.

Rien Poortvliet (1932-1995) was a celebrated Dutch artist and illustrator renowned for his finely detailed, naturalistic drawings of animals and rural life. His richly textured watercolor illustrations brought the world of gnomes to life and helped make the book a global phenomenon.
