Halfway Haunted - by Hannah Kates (Paperback)

Book Synopsis

A dazzling paranormal mystery perfect for fans of Small Spaces and Lockwood & Co.!

"Hannah Kates's Halfway Haunted is a clever and engaging story. Her characters Gwinnett Rooke and Honora Hagerty might be fictitious, but they are a perfect addition to the colorful tapestry of history, spirit and magic that makes Savannah so enchanting."--John Berendt, New York Times Bestselling Author of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

The only thing worse than being dead is being half dead. And when twelve-year-old Gwinnett Rooke has an altercation with a speeding tourist trolley on the shady streets of Savannah, Georgia, she finds herself in a ghastly predicament: She's not alive, but she's not quite dead, either. Her friends don't recognize her. Tourists look straight through her. Her own mother doesn't even remember her name.

Caught somewhere between this life and the next, Gwinnett has no choice but to take on an apprenticeship with a local witch named Honora Hagerty. But Honora's not just any witch. She serves as Savannah's resident psychopomp, a magical guide tasked with helping spirits navigate the afterlife. However, the only lost soul she refuses to help seems to be Gwinnett herself.

Desperate for a way back to her old life, Gwinnett turns to her phantasmal new friends for answers--only to have them start mysteriously disappearing. Then a string of strange deaths strikes the city, and a suspicious group of city hall politicians swoops in to threaten Savannah's most historic (and haunted) landmarks.

Someone is targeting Savannah's spectral citizens. And if Gwinnett can't restore the balance between the living and the dead, the whole city just might be doomed to a fate beyond the grave.

About the Author

Hannah Kates is an author, editor, and professional D&D Dungeon Master (which is totally a thing). Since ending her brief career as a pirate hunter, she's moonlighted in a variety of vocations, including character actress, Swiss Alps governess, and ghost tour guide in America's most haunted mansion. You can usually find her lifting heavy things, skulking around cemeteries, or playing honky-tonk piano.
