Description

Book Synopsis

hiking beyond, bronwyn preece's second poetry collection, is a courageous journey through landscapes both external and internal. In these deeply personal pieces, preece brings us along on her adventures through poems, narratives and reflections from her perspective navigating the trail with a crooked knee and a fierce will to keep going. A collection of poetry written wearing muddy boots, in wet tents and with frozen fingers, bronwyn preece's hiking beyond is a collection steeped in the messiness of being alive. With reverence for geology, ornithology, botany, history and all that resists easy categorization, preece captures the soundbites, questions and quiet revelations of solo backcountry travel. From recovery from injury to the realities of living with Wilson's Disease, hiking beyond explores what it means to hike, to heal, and to belong. In this collection, she brings a sensitive awareness of what it means to move through and learn from her experiences as a woman of predominantly settler descent on the unceded ancestral lands of British Columbia and Alberta.
