Was looking forward to having some good bacon but was very disappointed. It was flavorless and didn't cook up like bacon normally. Does. I even questioned if it was really bacon. I'm considering taking it back to the store and getting my money back. That's how disappointing it was.

This brand has gone so far down hill recently. Used to be my go to bacon brand. But shrinkflation has hit them too. It's the thinnest bacon I've ever seen. As thin as paper. Total ripoff. It's translucent

This used to be the choice bacon in our family. Recently the quality has drastically declined. The bacon cooks horribly because it's mainly just fat. The taste isn't very good either. Will be switching to a different brand.

All I wanted to do is make a sandwich I opened up the package went to peel it apart and it like it just broke up in the little pieces. I reached out to the company told him I had pictures. It's like it went through a shredder.. of course no response. We just take your money we don't care. I'd rather pay five dollars more and get a decent piece of bacon. It doesn't break apart while you're trying to peel from the other pieces and come up with maybe a 3 inch piece of bacon with little bits of pieces all over the pan because like I said, it just isn't a salad piece of bacon. I wouldn't buy it again. I wouldn't recommend it but it does taste good that's about it though.

My husband and I usually enjoy a pack of Hormel Black Label Thick Cut original about 5 times a month. We have about six packs in the freezer right now. We took two packs with us on vacation last week and couldn't wait for our family members to try. What a huge disappointment! In the first pack, all of the bacon had been cut cross-ways about 2 inches down; and the second pack was so salty, no one wanted to finish theirs. I just kept apologizing because in 4 years, we had never experienced a bad pack and this was 2 packs in a row! I haven't cooked any more since we got home. I'm writing this review here because I couldn't find an email. I had never looked at reviews before, but it seems that I'm not the only one with a complaint. Please do better with quality control! I would hate to have to stop purchasing your product!

It is really salty like other reviewers said and it isn't cut right. Pieces are falling apart. Thick cut bacon shouldn't be falling apart when you are separating slices. Very disappointed. I'm not sure what has happened to the quality of this product.

I don't write many reviews but when I do it's legit. This was so salty that my whole meal was ruined. It burnt my mouth and throat and my wife said the same. Never even tasted the bacon. I will go back to a different brand. Not to mention the fact that it will kill your kidneys.

As expensive as this bacon is now when it's labeled thick cut it should be thick cut. I had pieces so thin they ripped right apart into pieces. I won't be buying this brand again!

Good afternoon, I've been a long-time consumer of Hormel products. Every year at Christmas and Thanksgiving we cook 2+ Hormel Cure 81 Hams. They are the best hams on the market. We also only use Black Label bacon. We buy a considerable amount of the thick uncooked bacon for meals. We also utilize the Black Label fully cooked bacon for sandwiches, etc. During one of our recent family breakfast get togethers, I cooked 2 40 OZ packages of the Hornel Black Label Thick Cut Bacon. I was very disappointed with the quality of the bacon in these 2 packages. Every slice of the bacon in each package looked like 2/3 of a slice. The middle section of each slice was basically non-existent. This was the first time we had ever experienced this type of issue with your product. We purchased these products at one of our local Homeland Stores. What can be done about this issue? Thanks in advance for your help

The package stating it is "thick cut" is definitely misleading and false advertising. Not sure if someone cut it wrong or was mislabeled, but the slices could not be any thinner...you can hardly take out of package without the slices tearing. We always buy the thick cut and have bought Hormel before. But, we will not be buying this again. On a positive note, the flavor is okay and does not shrink much.

We've tested this twice now, never again hours of indigestion and literally hurts the mouth and all the way down. Does not cook right and just is plain out AWFUL. You could stick this outside as a salt lick to hunt deer. Never ever buying another Hormel product after this. Now to go leave a stellar review for the Pepcid I had to take 🤣

Disappointing Decline in Quality

Tom - 11 months ago

Dear Hormel Foods, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with your Black Label Original Thick Cut Bacon, following a recent purchase that has left my family extremely disappointed. As loyal customers, we have always appreciated the quality of your bacon, particularly its thickness and flavor, which made it a staple in our household. However, this latest experience has raised serious concerns about the direction your product quality is heading. Upon opening the package, we immediately noticed that the bacon slices were markedly thinner than what we have been accustomed to. We could see through the slices, a stark contrast to the thick, hearty cuts that once set your product apart from competitors. When we broiled the bacon, something we've done for years, it began falling apart in the pan after just 15 minutes. This was not the Black Label Bacon we trusted — this was a pale imitation. This experience suggests a significant and disappointing drop in quality. While we understand that economic pressures can affect any business, it is unacceptable for a company of your reputation to compromise on the very standards that built customer loyalty in the first place. Sacrificing product integrity to cut costs may seem like an expedient decision, but it is one that ultimately betrays the trust of your consumers. Lowering the quality of your product reflects poorly on your brand and calls into question your commitment to excellence. This degradation in product quality feels not only careless but also like an egregious lack of integrity. Your company is responsible for ensuring that the quality and experience your customers expect are upheld, regardless of external pressures. Unfortunately, you have failed to meet that responsibility with this product. The sharp decline we've witnessed in your bacon suggests either a lack of attention or a deliberate choice to diminish the product — either of which is unacceptable for a brand with your history. While many customers may not notice these changes or may continue purchasing out of habit, this apathetic approach will erode the trust of discerning consumers like us. It's a call for your company to do better — to regain its standards and show the integrity we expect from a brand as well-established as Hormel. If this is not addressed, you risk losing the loyalty of customers who expect consistency and quality, not shortcuts. We hope to see a return to the standards that once made Black Label Bacon a reliable, high-quality product. This recent experience has made us question whether Hormel Foods can still be trusted to deliver the quality we expect. Respectfully, Tom

Just made this for breakfast. It's like some kind of imitation trying to be bacon. It doesn't even cook right. I kept thinking this has to be label grown meat. The finished bacon was pink. I even broiled it and it would not even burn. I love burned bacon and this wouldn't burn no matter how hard I tried without catching my house on fire. It still looks raw after cooking it. I will never buy this again. I'm super weirded out.
