A great gift!

This turned out to be an excellent gift for my 6 year old nephew. He loves anything structural and mechanical so this was a great gift to provide hands-on building and a way to learn about telling time. This is my second purchase from MindWare; there will be more.

Frustrating, needs wood glue, soft parts that break, may need to adjust pieces

The instructions were poor and faint to read. I had to use a magnifying lens to read the most important of the directions. Because the pieces are so small, I dropped many and spent much time looking for the ones I dropped. The wood laser-cut pieces were brittle and seldom fit well, requiring some whittling to make them fit. I had to figure out where the last 3 gears went, because the instructions were so vague. The soft metal on the winder peg broke so now I can't wind it to see it go.

Difficult to assemble

Instructions were average at best, making assembly difficult at times. Some of the pieces had very small tabs and actually required to fit a square peg into a round hole. The fit was very tight and many of the small tabs broke. Upon assembly of the parts, they didn't always fit together properly. The metal rods used on the various parts were not long enough to fit properly. No real information on how the clock works or how to set it. Not sure I can get the clock to work.

Won't run for more than a minute

This clock is not for a 12 year old and you definitely need an adult to help build this. It took many hours to complete and even though you can follow the instructions exactly, you will need to make many fine adjustments to the gears so that they all mesh together. Upon completion we were very disappointed that we could not get this thing to run on it's own for more than a minute no mater how we balanced it per the instructions! More to say but no room here. I don't recommend!!

Fun to assemble and looks good but will not run.

It was fun assembling the clock and it looks good. Unfortunately, I have been unable to make the clock run for more then maybe a minute or two, tops. I think it has something to do with the spring.

Nothing

This was a gift, and it was sent directly to my grandson. The first question online need's to be, a gift or not. Plus, when I finally found it, SMALL print. that is very frustrating. I was a little scared, after reading some of the reviews, that pieces easily were broken, removing from the wooden plate

Clock doesn't run

This was a gift. My friend enjoyed building it, but the clock doesn't run as promised. It only goes for about 1 minute. He said there isn't any troubleshooting resources.

Well made, but it takes all your concentration

The pieces were precisely cut and easily manipulated. The instructions need to be followed very carefully, with particular attention to the characteristics and shape of each piece. When connected, the pieces fit very well together. The clock takes a lot of concentration, so I found it helpful to stop after I became even a little fatigued mentally, put the clock away, and come back to it when I was fresh.

Only runs for 3 hours!

Fun kit to put together, clock works well.... for up to 3 hours, and then the spring has to be re- wound. Once every 24 hours would be acceptable, but every 3 hours? No, not acceptable, especially for the cost of this kit. It would be much better if there was an option to run it via electric motor. Without this, it's not worth the cost of this kit. Because of this, I would not recommend this kit.

Use the Wax ! Luke

I had built a Grandfather clock w/ the Westminster chimes back in 1975 and it still runs.I received this perfect Christmas gift from my son, I put it together while watching a foot ball game and just finished it as the game ended.I was surprised with the accuracy it has once I adjusted the pendulum. I do wish it had a larger stronger spring to allow to run past 6 1/2 hours. But over all, a very nice kit and fun to assemble with out anymore direction than provided in the kit.Kudos

Fun idea, poor quality & non-functional

My 11 year old was excited to get this for Christmas, but it ended up being a huge disappointment. He is excellent at building/engineering projects and had no problem following assembly instructions, but the quality of the wood is so poor that many pieces snapped and broke during assembly. We tried to glue things back together and continue with assembly, but at the end the clock still wasn't functional and wouldn't run for more than a few seconds. Fun idea, terrible quality and nonfunctional.

Good fun but don't expect it to work!

Bought this 2 years ago for our grandson and he just never showed an interest in it so I decided to put it together myself. After a day and a half I had it completed. Along the way broke a couple of the smaller parts but using other pieces I managed to finish it. My biggest complaint is it will not run for more then 1-2 minutes. I have gone through it and adjusted everything to make sure it was assembled correctly but to no avail. I guess it is just supposed to be a conversation piece.

Good project

Overall the clock was high quality but getting all the gears to line up without interference with the Gerald shafts was not good. I even took it apart and made sure all was put together correctly and there is still interference and so the clock doesn't work as advertised. Trying to put the gears in the clock wit the clock frame barely highlighted and the gears not called out by number was confusing.

My granddaughter wow!

This was a Christmas present for my 11-year-old granddaughter. She put it together yesterday and it is now a working clock. She loved the challenge and she certainly impressed me.

Need smooth parts.

Initial appearance was good, however, after completing the assembly, the clock only operated for 8 seconds, making a rasping noise,. Th culprit is the rough edges to most of the parts. My 18 year0ld engineering student very well versed in making and assembling metal type objects, was very disappointed, considered sanding pats, but when testing on some waste wood it became worse due to the fibrous nature of the materil.Cannot in all honesty give you or any others good marks for Quality.

needs tweaking

one worked the other did not. both were assembled at the same time. Seems to be something with the pendulum. it would work for about 10 seconds the other one worked great. I have given these wooden puzzles for Christmas for several years and mostly have worked well.
