Nothing Human Left - by Logan Hart (Paperback)

Book Synopsis

When Grace reluctantly returns to her hometown to say goodbye to her terminally ill, incarcerated mother, memories stir of the night her mother was accused of murder, and Grace questions her claims of innocence. Reckoning with her spotty memory of the events, Grace must get to the bottom of what really happened that fateful night in this gritty thriller for fans of Just Like Home and Insomnia.

"I kept you out of danger, Gracie. I always protected you. Always."

Grace was thirteen when her mother was convicted of killing her friends in their isolated Pennsylvania farmhouse. Stoic and remorseless, Margerie pled guilty, claiming the killings were to protect Grace, and that the young victims were not girls at all, but imposters wearing "People Faces" -a constant refrain that Grace heard from her mother at the height of Margerie's mental illness.

Twenty years later, Grace is a dedicated social worker, juggling a professional disaster and a demoralizing break-up. When she gets a call that Margerie has been granted compassionate release from prison to live out her final days in hospice, Grace reluctantly returns to the claustrophobic coal mining town of Fallen Rock to say her farewells.

But Grace is blindsided that Margerie now claims to be innocent. Beginning to doubt her own long-held convictions, Grace hesitantly reconnects with the other players from the night of the murders. But how can she trust the memories of anyone else if she no longer can trust herself?

Review Quotes

"Nothing Human Left is scary good - a sinister, slow-tightening noose of a novel with prose sharp enough to draw blood. Logan Hart turns fractured memories into a hall of mirrors, where every reflection hides something monstrous. With surgical precision and a vise-grip sense of dread, this riveting debut burrows under your skin." -- Susan Walter, USA Today bestselling author of Murder at 30,000 Feet

"Nothing Human Left is so creepy I had to put it away when the sun went down. Equally dark as it is propulsive, Hart's debut will have you turning pages until you reach that shocking and gruesome ending." -- Marlee Bush, Author of Darling, You're Next

"I love a thriller with a bone chilling reckoning, and in Nothing Human Left, Logan Hart hits it out of the park! Grace was a young girl when her mother committed a truly horrifying crime, but when she returns to say her final goodbye, her mother claims to be innocent. Told in dual timelines, we follow Grace as she searches for the truth now, and relive that bloody, terrifying night right alongside her twenty years ago. A stunning debut!" -- Wendy Walker, USA Today and International bestselling author

"In Nothing Human Left, Logan Hart presents a toxic loop of memories and secrets and binds them with beautifully fleshed characters and a gripping plot to form a psychologically twisted story. I was totally invested in Grace's life, from the very first page, and remained enthralled until the last word. Forget about sleep: this is a page-turner, a wild ride in the extreme. Unguessable. Unimaginable. And totally unforgettable." -- K.D. Aldyn, author of Sister, Butcher, Sister
