About the Author



Jane Timmons-Mitchell, PhD, is a clinical child psychologist with 40 years of experience. She is also Stephen's mother. Throughout Stephen's growing up, she worked in academic medicine, attaining the rank of Associate Professor of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry. She is currently Associate Clinical Professor in the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Timmons-Mitchell launched a private practice, Junction Psychological Services Corporation, in 2000. She has been awarded grants and contracts (federal, state, local, foundation) and authored publications on topics including juvenile justice, suicide prevention, and bullying, serving as a reviewer for both granting agencies and journals. Dr. Timmons-Mitchell writes a blog for Psychology Today. For 35 years, she sang in the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. Jane and her husband, Bob, live in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Stephen Mitchell is a mechanical engineer for a major multinational aerospace company. His career has spanned diesel engine cooling systems for tractors and off-highway vehicles to plastic parts for renowned Detroit automakers, vacuum cleaners for the commercial products industry, and large capital machinery for material processing plants. Stephen recently left the automotive industry, where his work earned him two United States patents and awards for innovation and continuous improvement in engineering processes.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Stephen is a mountaineer, triathlete, and musician. He has scaled numerous peaks with a high technical ability. He sang with his family in the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus for five years.

Stephen is married to the love of his life, a former D1 running captain and current engineering manager. Their daughter was born June 2025. They live together with their rescue dog in a Cleveland suburb.
