the book I didn't know I needed!
This book was so useful. I'm a long time follower of Dana and her decluttering method, but I never would have thought to apply it to procrastinating and life quite like this. This is the book I didn't know I needed. A progress process that even works on "making friends" and "cooking meals"? I got way more out of this book than I even expected.

The mindset shifts I needed all along!
I am a big fan of Dana's books on decluttering, and have often thought about how her strategies could be more broadly applied. I was so excited when I heard she was writing a book about procrastination!! I was lucky enough to get to read an advanced copy a couple of weeks early and it ALREADY has had a big impact in my day to day life. I've been able to apply the strategies from her book to specific situations, but even more generally I've found myself just seeing things differently so that my days seem to be running smoothly! To give a very rough outline, parts I and II are about the "whys" and mindset shifts that lay the groundwork for the actual method which is presented in Part III. I found those first two parts so validating - oh Dana really does get it!! Part III walks us through the steps to bust through procrastination and Dana gives different examples of what the process would look like in different scenarios. Part IV may actually be my favorite. This is about accepting reality, and not judging *yourself* for that reality. We all have our own "committment threshold" -- you can do anything, but you can't do everything...and that's OK!! Since Dana is coming from a place of being a procrastinator herself, her writing is authentic, funny, compassionate, and EFFECTIVE! In the past few weeks since reading this book I've been able to make progress (and even complete in some cases!) things I've been stuck on for YEARS. AND I've found ways to "make" time in my day to day life for hobbies I love that I couldn't see how they would fit before. I'm already RE-reading it because it's SO rich with gems of wisdom. I can see myself reading it on repeat! I can't do proper justice to this book in one review, I will just say if you've ever found yourself paralyzed by overwhelm (or feel that way all the time!) do yourself a favor and read this book!!

Dana does it again!
With her characteristic conversational style, Dana speaks on procrastination as if you had just stopped in to sit on her front porch for a bit. Full of kindness and practicality, Dana's sixth book delivers!

The first book on procrastination that I’ve read that felt more like getting a pedicure than getting a tooth pulled! Dana’s book is brilliant! Practical, definable strategies that can be implemented immediately and effortlessly, while building hope and giving help on making progress on those things that you want to do or need to do that have been more challenging.

Life changing book!
I have struggled with procrastination for as long as I can remember. And for as long as I can remember, I have been trying to find a way to get stuff done. This book is what finally has me crossing things off my to-lists and project lists - some of which have been on there for years! Dana has created an amazing process that stops the overwhelm not only with procrastinating but prioritizing. She does this with humor and real-life examples that have me saying. "I do that too!" I know I will be referring to this book often with so many things highlighted and flagged!! Thank you, Dana, for another life-changing book!

Finally getting stuff done!
This book is a revelation to me, a chronic procrastinator!! I have been following Dana K. White for a couple of years now - I've watched most of her videos, read "Decluttering at the Speed of Life," and internalized her 5 Step No-Mess Decluttering Process, which is a game-changer for taking control of one's physical spaces. This book is *NOT* about taking control of one's mental spaces, because Dana is not a psychologist and doesn't profess to be one. But it is about mindset shifts, and taking control of the mental roadblocks that prevent progress in *all* aspects of life - projects, tasks, dreams, goals, whatever. Every page has me literally nodding along with her insightful (often hard) truths, and feeling inspired to just keep going and keep making progress!!

Moving forward = success!
Incredible! I not only feel seen by the examples and personal stories Dana shares, but I also feel encouraged by the strategies and steps that help break down overwhelm in any situation. Changing the goal to "making progress" and "moving forward" removes the daunting weight of the overall project or scenario. Teeny tiny steps finished completely count as success and that motivates me to continue. 🧡💚

Worth the read even if you read Dana's previous books
96478I have been following Dana for years and have read her previous books. I was a little bit concerned before I read it that it would be too similar to the previous ones, but I was very happy that was not the case. Sure some things are similar, but this book is definitely worth getting even if you read her previous books. I love her style of writing and she really does speak "our language" (the language of procrastinators. ) She knows how our brains work and how to talk to them and get actual results, instead of overwhelm. In fact, she reduces the overwhelm! And it's helpful for anyone not just people who are always procrastinating or think of themselves as procrastinators. It's helpful for any kind of task, need, dream, want, that we tend to put off

You are NOT alone!
Dana somehow reaches the hearts and minds of people like myself who have the intention, see the finished task in her mind, but somehow can’t take the first steps to actually do those necessary steps. She reminds me that I’m not alone, that it is possible to do it, all I have to do is finish the first teeny step and the next and the next vs taking it all in one giant leap. If you struggle with procrastination and “hate” yourself for it, then this book will minimally let you know some reasons why we do it, learn to love yourself with all your quirks and possibly even give you that little push /step to start what you can’t start. Thanks Dana for “getting” us❤️

I’m only about halfway through the book so far and I can already tell it’s going to change my life. I am so glad to have found Dana. I’ve read/followed many people in attempts to get my life together and it always felt like people who already have it together talking to other people who have it together but are just temporarily set back. Nothing ever really resonated and it always felt like my brain just works differently that the advice doesn’t work for me. I thought I was a lost cause. I finally read Dana’s book on decluttering and was amazed how different it was from the standard decluttering content and how it actually worked for ME. I felt deeply that Dana’s decluttering process could be applied in other areas in my life, but I wasn’t sure exactly how, so I was so excited to find out that Dana was releasing a book on procrastination! In this book, Dana includes a lot of stories from her own life, and I can relate to every single one of them. She’s very funny, approachable, and down to earth, not preachy or self-righteous. It honestly feels like getting advice from a wise older friend. It’s actually all pretty common-sense, nothing esoteric or woo-woo or overly scientific, but just presented in a very digestible way. I’ve had so many “aha” moments and realizations. As an example, Dana was talking about premade decisions and how one premade decision she made was to say “I’m so sorry for your loss” whenever she heard about someone losing a loved one. At first, I was a bit confused as to what it had to do with anything. But as I read on, she explained how the first time someone she knew lost a loved one, she didn’t know what to say and basically tried to avoid the person and then felt a lot of guilt and shame about not saying anything. So, she made a decision that she would say “I’m so sorry for your loss” in any future situations, even if it’s not the perfect thing to say, because what you say matters less than saying something. The point of the story was to illustrate “cutting off overthinking at the fork in the road. One direction leads to continued relationship. The other leads to angst and guilt and spending significant time and energy worrying about how to finally say something. Knowing which direction to take on some of them is a relief.” That hit me hard. I can’t even count the number of times I have just not said anything in uncomfortable situations because I didn’t know the perfect thing to say. I still carry around the guilt and disappointment in myself years and decades later. I’ve missed out on showing people who I truly do care about that I do care about them. I’ve missed out on deepening and strengthening relationships. All because I overthink about what to say and spin myself out and end up not saying anything at all. I never even realized I was an overthinker until reading this book. That realization and the potential positive impact on my relationships alone is worth the cost of the book. But there are many, many more nuggets of wisdom and insights I’ve gleaned from this book—and I’m only halfway through! I am recommending this book to my entire family and many of my friends. I don’t think it is necessarily for everyone. But for those of us to whom the standard self-help advice just doesn’t click, definitely consider this book. If you read the sample pages, I think you’ll get a good idea very quickly whether this book will be helpful for you. I hope it changes your life.
