Book Synopsis

A magical story of a Peruvian girl named Rosa, who loved caring for baby alpacas high in the Andes mountains.

Rosa lived in Cuzco, a beautiful city with steep, cobbled streets, high up in the Andes mountains, almost touching the sky. She was a Peruvian girl, descended from the Incas, and she loved her city and its people. Her family had an alpaca farm, and every day after school Rosa helped her parents, making sure the alpacas had clean, fresh water to drink. One afternoon, on her way back from the spring, she found a newborn alpaca abandoned on the path, with not a single hair on its skin. She scooped it up in her arms and ran home to show her parents.

Rosa's father worried the little alpaca would never survive the cold without any wool, and said it would be best to sell it at the market. But Rosa begged to keep it, promising to care for it herself. It appears the mountains had been listening to her all along, and had a big surprise stored for her...
