Description

Book Synopsis

Secrets. Scandal. Seduction. Jaye Brannigan is chasing justice--and the woman who could destroy her career might also steal her heart.

When hard-charging butch SEC prosecutor Jaye Brannigan stumbles onto a church-based investment scam draining millions from working-class families, she knows the case could make--or end--her career.

Queer, outspoken, and already targeted by a hostile administration, Jaye follows the money from Boston to New Mexico, uncovering a web of religious patriarchy, financial fraud, and offshore secrets. As the danger mounts, so does the temptation to guard her heart--especially when a magnetic woman pulls her toward connection just as everything else threatens to unravel.

She's on to Something is a sharp, sapphic romantic thriller about justice, power, desire, and refusing to stay quiet in a world built to silence you.

Review Quotes

"It's impossible not to love courageous butch Jaye Brannigan . . . a page-turner of the best sort." -Ann Aptaker, Lambda Literary and Goldie award-winning author of the Cantor Gold series

"Bailey achieves what good literature strives for: a story that is contemporary, reflective, and satisfying, with the tension that keeps the reader totally engaged. I couldn't stop reading." -Mimi Gonzalez, poet, comic, and LGBTQ+ firebrand

"This book pulled me in, made me want to solve a crime, and go dancing with a sexy woman. I loved the representations of Butch/femmes, theys, and thems. A wonderfully queer cast of characters all felt like people I've met and want to know more about. Bailey's writing builds as much tension in financial crimes as the potential romance. A triumph!" --Michelle Axelson, Womencrafts

About the Author

Sandy Bailey began her working life behind the wheel of freight and passenger trains across New England and on Nantucket, building houses with her own hands before turning to law school. Her legal career took her from prosecuting white-collar and domestic violence cases in New Mexico to tackling corporate fraud in Boston and Washington, D.C.

Outside the courtroom, she brings communities together--organizing clean-ups, bird walks, and outdoor concerts in Boston's Franklin Park--and keeps herself sharp on the basketball court with her lesbian hoops squad. She has tromped every trail in the ancient Blue Hills. A queer dance class led her to an unforgettable teacher who would become her life partner. Together, they continue to cultivate the queer dance joy that makes Boston so alive.
