SULO "SOUL OR NOTHING" "Diamond Dogs frontman goes soul deep on his new album, claims the crown and tells us that this time it's soul or nothing". Sulo is mostly known as the frontman and main songwriter of the legendary Swedish boogie rockers Diamond Dogs. 15 albums in they're still on top of their game with the recently released and critically acclaimed Little Richard album "Macon Georgia Giant" that got them to play the Cherry blossom festival in Macon Georgia, recording at Capricorn and meeting up with Otis Reddings family and Little Richards cousin. That album was a collaboration with Sulo's longtime friend Chris Spedding (Bryan Ferry, Elton John, Sex Pistols etc). Cos besides Diamond Dogs Sulo has frequently working with other artists such as Maria McKee, Janis Ian, Crystal Gayle, Ian Hunter, Paul Young etc and he is also the singer and songwriter of the UK act The Crunch featuring members from The Clash and Sham 69. As being one of his generations most prolific songwriters he manage to release some solo albums besides all his other engagements. "Soul or nothing" that is due to be released in March is maybe his most soulful and personal effort so far. The clue is in the title even if it's a travesty built on Small Faces classic "All or nothing". But that also leads us on track to what this is all about. Cos the whole album is a homage to the raspy soul singers, mainly from the British islands, that once influenced Sulo's singing and songwriting. Names like Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, Terry Reid, Frankie Miller and others who also embraced the American soul music in the 60's and turned it into something else has been Sulo's guide to make this album happen. The first single "Love really hurts without you" is a perfect proof of the impact the US soul had on British music in general. It's a cover of Billy Oceans self penned UK number one hit and it sounds as fresh and groovy now as it did back then. Being the only cover of the 12 songs of the album the next single will be a Sulo original even if it sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. Gracefully pimped with horns, gospel choirs and string arrangements you have to look twice to see that year is 2025 and not 1975. Cos if it was a doctors degree on early 70's British rock n roll Sulo would definitely have been an A student. The second single from the album is the title track "Soul or nothing". A uptempo Motown flirt where he shares the vocals with the Swedish disco queen Kayo. It's a statement and a promise that music always will have the ability to take us to a higher ground where trouble times can't reach. So here's the deal, it's soul or nothing so grab the bull by the horn and get in the groove!
